Are the police going to do anything?

I'll ask Admiral. If what you say is true I'll say I made a mistake! :D

Get your glasses on. Admiral definitely ask about accidents, regardless of fault on the quoting page.

Yep you're right, and it will apply to the OP. However in my case the answer is still no. My car was parked up and locked. My interpretation is that I wasn't involved. I'll mention it anyway - honesty is the best policy. Like I said I just renewed and it didn't affect my premium.

I'm with Admiral. I was hit last year by a guy while I was parked at a shopping centre. I was driving a company car(on company insurance NOT with Admiral) and took photographs to prove that he hit me , he eventually admitted liability. I phoned Admiral (being an honest chap) and told them of this. They said it was 'policy' to make me pay an extra fee for this year. Bast**ds charged me £50.

W@%nkers!! Did you make a claim through the company policy and were you in the car? I haven't actually claimed off anyone. The third parties insurance contacted me directly to arrange repairs as they admitted liability.

Yes I was in the car when he hit me. parked with handbrake on. He admitted liability so I assume the insurance claim to fix the mundano was against his policy. Admiral didn't want any details but stated that although it was non fault there was an 'agreement' between insurers that there shall be a compulsory payment against the non fault party. This was NOT a 'knock for knock' . I was (am) bloody furious.

Absolute rotters, only thing you can do is vote with your feet & renew with another company :headbang:

You have taken it surprisingly well!

No doubt the police will do nothing as no one was injured...

So hopefully they do get caught and get stiff points/ fine.

Gutted and feel your pain.... Bet you wished you left it dirty now!

My wife was hit by an uninsured driver in June last year in her 1 Series. Was witnessed as not being her fault and processed through her insurers Hastings. £5000 repair by BMW £3000 personal damages. All matters resolved within 6 months and everything she had to pay out paid back in full. Renewal in April showed no premium increase as all costs were recovered via the MIB.

Being hit by an uninsured motorist is not that bad, particularly if its not your fault (like yours). A small amount of our insurance premiums goes to the Motorists Insurance Bureau (MIB) which was set up to tackle to problems of uninsured drivers as honest and lawful motorists were being penalised. Your insurers should be able to claim all the costs back via the MIB (which is what they want) and it should then be recorded as a no fault claim.

Nobody wants to be hit by another driver but based on personal experience, the services of MIB were brilliant and everything was sorted via the legal support via Hastings. If it was witnessed as not your fault, you have a decent insurer and legal cover, I wouldn't worry too much as its likely to turn out okay.

Did the authorities catch & prosecute the scumbag who hit your wife?
The punishments normally seem laughably light for crimes like this :x

The incident was reported to the police by ourselves and Hastings also followed up with direct contact with police as well and confirmed the driver was uninsured. We had no confirmation the driver was prosecuted but I'm assuming she was due to the cost of damage and due to matter being an active log to Greater Mancs Police. I'm probably being naive but I would hope they did given the circumstances and the fact she had minor injuries.

As I said though couldn't fault Hastings and the MIB dealt with it really well with very little delay. :)

It is one of my guilty pleasures seeing cars being taken off the road for not being insured (Police stop genre ). I hope the authorities get this car and crush it. I am totally gutted for you.

Back in 2004 my wife was hit in her MR2 by what we can only assume was an uninsured driver.
Luckily for us there was another car between the uninsured driver and my wife, the other car got rear ended shunting it into my wifes.
Everybody was at a set of temp traffic lights and this guy plowed into the back of the queue.
During the aftermath of the accident the guy legged it so can only assume he was either drunk, no licence, uninsured, had a warrant out etc.
The police were pretty useless. Days later they appeared with a book with pics of possible suspects to show my wife, nobody looked familiar.
They said the car wasnt registered to anybody and it was basically left at that, they had contacted the previous owner who had said he had sold it.
To us this seemed that not enough was done, this guy could have killed somebody and was running around in cars ininsured and willing to just leg it and lose the car. Surely the previous owner should have been held accountable to provide details of who he sold the car to?
My wifes car was repaired fully by the insurance of the innocent guy who was shunted into her. He couldnt claim anybody but his own insurance.
Just lucky nobody was seriously injured or would the police have put in a better effort if someone was?

Despite knowing someone who works in the insurance industry, I still believe companies will try anything to put up your premiums.

This year i went through a massive saga when I was accused of hitting someone on my motor bike last year. to which my insurance company began the process of handing out a hire car to the third party. Despite the Third party giving them the wrong name and occupation. My name is not asian in origin and I don't work for Papa Johns pizza and I'm sure they don't ride 600cc Supersport bikes. I was also not even in the same area (Brighton vs Manchester)

I ended up being quoted over £2k for insurance and told that if I paid i wouldn't see the difference back. They also said that as they had begun the process for a claim I was pretty much done and would have to wait for the third party to admit that it wasn't me. So I ended up with no insurance for 2 week until someone on PH helped me with a few poignant parts of a letter and it all magically disappeared the next day.

End of story and my brokers doubled my premium as "because you have had a false claim against you, you are now more at risk of having another one happen and more at risk of having a real claim leveled at you. WTF! :headbang:

Needless to say I left that broker.

Just finished up with the police and it's booked in for a quote with BMW later this afternoon, if it's under £1000 I think we'll just repair it as it might be more costly in the long run as it will affect both our insurance premiums. The police have already insured the CCTV will not be deleted and are picking it up this week.

To be fair the police had already contacted the garage holding the footage by the time I'd got there.

Pretty decent. If they catch this guy then great but I'm not holding out much hope of ever getting any funds back anytime soon.

Truth is I'm glad it wasn't a much worse accident that could have left me crippled or written off the car.

Guy's a (choose choice expletive) but meh, life thankfully goes on.

Cheers T1b

I got hit a few years ago on an icy road by an uninsured plonker driving in the opposite direction, he skidded right across the road on a country lane after failing to negotiate a bend.

The final upshot was that he was eventually prosecuted for having no insurance, meanwhile my car (Ford Escort) was written off straight after the accident. It didn't cost me anything as I had 'no claims protection', something that I always include on my insurance. It costs relatively little but came in very useful on that occasion.
