Hire car question...

I'm currently away enjoying a very sunny Croatia and I have a brand new but simply awful Peugeot 208 diesel as a
hire car. My question is this, when I press the accelerator fully down (frequently) there seems to be a button on the floor under the peddle that clicks and allows a few millimetres more travel? The 'click' can be clearly felt and heard. I think I have a recollection of this on another car I've driven.

Any ideas what it's for? Doesn't seem to make it go any faster!!!

Thanks!

Does the car have cruise control/speed limiter if so the extra bit of travel is for knocking off the speed limiter when it is set had this on my previous works van (Sprinter) and on my current one a Renault.

Yeah it does have cruise. I'll give it a go tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks very much for the replies!

So I was forced to leave the beach and take the 208 out for a 2.5hour drive in Bosnia to see the Mostar bridge (amazing place, painful history) and it turns out the button is to over ride a speed limiter you can set yourself. I'm not really sure why you'd ever want to use it unless you really have a BAD problem sticking to speed limits.....hold on, I should have one fitted to the Zed in that case!!

At least the mystery of the floor button is solved! As an aside, Croatia is just stunning and delightfully free of 'Brits abroad'. Slow going though on old and basic roads.
