Hi,

In my sDrive 18i 2013 owners manual says that my car has Hill Start Assist.

In mine it does not work, is there any setup or choice in any menu to set it up?

Thank you

It was done away with on certain models after a certain year but it was not taken out of BMWs literature.

Possibly cost?
Piece of software costly?
Perhaps it was licenced and they lost it or not prepared to continue paying?

But it wasnt removed from all models.
They removed it from some models for a reason, the main reason normally is cost.
Maybe it was removed from the entry level models just to make the other models have something they didnt.
Maybe it was only removed from the 4 pot models and there is some different software on these.
Whatever it was its strange as it used to be on all models.

That would be my thought - removed from the 18i to give more kit on the 20i

it may be as well that it was coded out by the previous owner of the car for some reason - worth a try to look at it

As far as i know it wasn’t active on any of the 2.0 e89’s

Wow - why remove something that is on earlier models especially if it is software - very strange

The DSC MK60 unit fitted to E89s supports a wide range of functions..hill start can be coded in the unit on or off along with dozens of other parameters…

It’s therefore not a cost issues..

Why BMW coded it in various ways I don’t know.

Certainly with a ZF8HP box there is no need to switch that feature on.

Quick question from Norfolk:
What is this hill-start magic of which you speak?
I have never noticed the lack of it.

In fact, what's a hill?

It holds the brakes on for a couple of seconds while you fumble around with your feet trying to find the accelerator :P

+1 on that from the Fens. I have it on good authority that these vehicles also have a handbrake, although I don't understand it's function. :D

What is the consensus for the e brake removal procedure on a hill?

Press accelerator, until bong, then release?

Or

Release and press accelerator? (May roll back?)

My driving instructor told me to find the biting point of the clutch then release the handbrake. Never had a vehicle roll back in 35 years. It's not really difficult, is it.

Yeah, thats the technique I use, but always get a bong.
