Hill assist handbrake! Good and bad?

It's a good feature, as already mentioned it makes you realise what quality cars BMW's are with these little details.

And mine holds for more than 2 seconds :?

You have your foot totally off the brake and the clutch pressed to the floor and it's still holiding it for more than two secs? Must be faulty!

Maybe i'm just thick and don't know how long 2 seconds is :lol:

i wish it didn't have it. this is my first car with hill assist and i'd rather negotiate on my own rather than have it hold momentarily - only to let go.

You can still fully ignore it though and use the normal handbrake method.

:? tbh a bit pointless, I ve managed to drive for 29 years of my life without it and just coming off the foot brake and onto the power quickly depending on how sharp the incline is if I am too lazy to use the handbrake.
...............which has got me thinking, if you took your driving test in a car with hill assist would it negate the need fot the infamous hill start with doing that difficult handbrake/clutch slipping malarky we struggled with at 17

+1, could not care less about these gadgets for a sports car. As an everyday driver though...

I use my M as a daily driver, so it's definitely useful. There's a hill on the way to work which often has traffic queued, so it's a useful thing to have. I certainly noticed losing hill hold assist when I sold my old Z4. Not to say I can't do it myself, but it's just convenient.
