Highest mileage Z4

Looking at the market and seeing so many high mileage Z4's still going strong and looking great. It's impressive how many 100k+ mile examples there are out there.

What's the highest mileage Z4 you've seen?

On eBay I sorted the Z4's for sale by lowest mileage first, and to my surprise the lowest mileage example was still a good 55k miles..

A couple of us listed the mileage here

Pretty robust engines tbh. the mileage didnt deter me from the example i managed to grab

I had the exact same dilemma. I’d take it on a car on car bases and not worry too much about mileage.
There can be advantages to a high mileage car as they may have had things like a clutch, suspension, water pump, engine gaskets and others replaced.
I was advised to post cars I was looking at on the forum and got some great advice.
Good luck with your search!

My first coupe had 150,000-155,000 on it, fella flew over from Scandinavia to buy it and drove home with it…he messaged after to tell me how pleased he was with it when he got home.

Haven't seen higher than this. Translates to 285.000 miles I believe.
Some would argue that it's barely run in at that mileage

This one has a similar mileage 458.666 kms
Seems pretty common for a Z4 :driving:

I’m buying another higher mileage car 145,000 miles I doubt I’ll do 5,000-7,000 miles a year so hopefully it behaves

Mine has that mileage and has just returned from my garage. The mechanic said the engine as sweet as a nut and there’s no reason that I can’t do that mileage again!

that would be nice, I had one with over 150,000 on and as you say sweet as a nut

This one is apparently 300,000 miles

And this one has 300,000km

These cars just seem to keep on going providing you keep on top of maintenance. They are getting old these days so need to start thinking about keeping the rust monster at bay.

Where does the rust start? Or where is it a concern?

I only have a sample size of one (my car) others may vary. but mine is kept outside all of the time in partial sun (when we get it ) and does between 2000 - 6000 miles per year with annual oil changes.

Most of the running gear has surface rust on including the rear subframe/diff carrier. The Rear trailing arms were very crusty as are the front knuckles (King pins) Nothing really too much to worry about there apart from the subframe I am looking to do my best at treating the rust so it doesn't get worse. Ive only seen one instance online of a rusted subframe/diff carrier going holey and that was an e46 on youtube in the US.

I also have some rust near the rear sprint perch where the undersea looks to have become weak and is trapping water under it. That is a concern for me and am looking at dealing with it soon.

Other wear items that go bad are the steel brake lines, I have the front pair on my todo list and the rears to inspect and possibly replace because why not unless it turns out to be a massive pain in the ass.

The only bits chassis wise that I am looking to do an inspection on soon is basically anywhere where mud and crud can build up and not get washed away easily during the normal cleaning routine (I live in an apartment so can only use the local jetwash. Or I need to sweet talk my mother in letting me come round and do some chores in exchange for using her driveway. But she has just had it re-done do I daren't get any oil or grime on it at risk of death :P )

I will be inspecting the rear trailing arm pockets, already done the RTABS so know there was mud built up there and some surface rust underseal issues that need taking care of. I have replaced the RTAB brackets when I did the bushes so know they are clean just need some protection. Then there is the front sills that I am going to take a look at and give it a shot with Lanoguard at some point hopefully this summer.

That was a bit of a ramble so TL;DR:

Front Sills where mud can build up, rear trailing arm pockets and boot floor/rear spring perches. + Most of the running gear and replaceable parts get manky pretty fast.

EDIT: I have not seen or heard of an E85 dying of rust to date it is more of a precaution to try and make mine live another 20 years.
