High mileage N52 (150k miles) thoughts

Hi,

So I am sadly looking replace my lovely E85 3.0i '04 with something a tad more practical.

I've got my eye on a 130i hatch, that's got literally every option selected. Even Pro Nav and heated front windscreen!

Trouble is... It's on 144,000 miles, which is a lot. My Zed has only done 96k.

Those of you with the same same engine in your 3.0si Zeds, what do you think?
 
I'd buy more on condition and history than mileage.

There are currently a couple of high mileage for sale on here, a 3.0Si Coupe with 168K and a 3.0Si Roadster with 180K.

When I sold my E91 325i last year it was on 139K (2.5 litre N52) it still ran really sweetly and pulled strongly at any engine speed.

I only sold it because I wanted a bit more power. And as a 130i or E91 330i was out of budget I got an E90 330i, also with the N52. It's on 113K now and still drives fine.

While the electric water pump isn't cheap, chances are at 144K it's probably already had one. After that it's just a matter of luck.

My 1st E86 needed one at 60K, but my 2nd was on the original at 91K.

A van will do 400,000 comfortably if serviced regularly
A motorbike that revs much higher than 4 wheeled vehicles will run big mileages if looked after I know of an rvf 400 that is 100,000 miles yes 400 cc... personally I’m glad of the masses been scared of mileages as it leaves a lot of great buys for people with an understanding of the abilities of a well looked after vehicle

Do it! As previously mentioned in this thread, buy on condition. Our Z4C E86 has just clocked over 121000 miles. Just gets better and better.
 
My last coupe had 150,000 on it and a guy flew over from a Nordic country to buy it ... after driving it back to said Nordic country he emailed to say how happy he was with the car...it was a great car
 
Ive got a 12 plate Mercedes E Class diesel estate and use it as my company car and as a daily driver. I bought it with 7000 miles on at 6 months old and its now got almost 258000 miles on it and is in good condition and still goes like a train. I wouldnt be put off by buying higher mileage vehicles privately but I would make sure I research online all their known mechanical and electronic issues. Think as long as the car has a low number of owners (for me 3 or less), has a fully documented service history, has two ignition keys and shows signs of a caring and considerate current owner then worth taking a punt - but remember buying any 2nd hand vehicles can be a gamble!
