High Beam Assist

OK, so my car has it, it is ticked in the relevant idrive menu, the lights are always on auto ... and when I push the stalk forward the icon showing the lights and 'A' comes on in the dash.

Now, when I do this the lights are on low beam - yet have never gone to full beam.

I would add I am driving in a mainly urban area with street lights. Is the sensor that picky about where the main beam comes on ? Does it literally have to be black out there before they come on or is there a fault ?

Comment on this feature welcome from people more in the know than my goodself ! :D

Yes it needs to be dark for them to work... Drive in to the country some where there is no street lights and you will see they work fine.. If it senses a car coming it will auto dim then when the car passes it will re activate

This. I've also noted that if the nav us on too brightly it will sense the brightness on the windscreen and not activate.

It does work, but as said above, in conditions where mainbeam is required.

Mind if your driving on an unlit road and there are cones out, the light reflecting back switches the auto high beam off :headbang: so you need to switch it back on manually but it's a good test.

When you do get it working and see a car coming don't be tempted to dip the lights, after the first time it adjusts and works so quickly there after.

Odd. Mine seems to work this out. Bright reflective signs etc are no problem.

Signs are not a problem. But cones which are the same height as the headlights are. If your travelling along a road say where there is a lane closure especially on the offside (drivers side for those who aren't sure) with full beam on the light reflecting back of the succession of cones will switch it off.

The occasional sign etc at the side off the road is not an issue, but cones close together at the side of the car, you know the ones you hope aren't sticking out too much or it'll have your mirror off not 10/20 feet away are an issue. To be honest the light bouncing back is quite bright so no wonder it switches off but that's what it's supposed to do as it detects the intensity of the light in to the sensor and it can't tell that it's coming from a reflective object next to the headlight at the same level

Finally got it working :D Not a fault, just as had been said earlier - not going anywhere dark enough ! I finally got out in the dark and it is cool :)

It is not as sensitive as my wife's Mazda 4x4's high beam assist but seems good to me :)
