High Beam assist

Our new 335 has High beam assist but we've not been out in the dark yet and I'm wondering how it operates. The book doesn't really spell it out.

I assume it's Auto headlights ON, then press the Assist button ? The headlights seem to come on to DiP beam at this stage.
Do they then switch to MAIN as soon as they get the opportunity ?
 
I've seen the video and it looks like it's good but I'm curious because it only come on in the Dip beam condition. I wondered when it switches itself to High Beam?
 
If i remember correctly, you have to activate mainbeam as normal. If the lights are set to auto, and the active setting is ticked in the i drive then bobs your uncle.

There's a button to activate the system - it shows a dashboard light but that's killed if the stalk is used to go onto mains.
 
I know in the E89 you just hold the stalk as if your putting the main beam on and then the wee blue main beam symbol appears on the dash with a capital A to indicate its on. It's a great little addition however the first time it's used on each drive it kinda needs to calibrate itself and you sometime think it's not going to dip but it does and it sometimes does it before you probably would.

If you want to confuse the hell out of it, drive along a road with lots of reflective material, I find traffic cones on a dark dual carriageway works best put the main beam assist on and within a few seconds it will switch itself off as it thinks the light bouncing back is another car :headbang:

And yes just like CC and the brake takes it off, toggling the stalk for the main beam switches it off. I'm sure you need to put it on every drive too, however BMW may have changed this.
 
I'm going to go out and potentially dazzle a few folk!

There's a little push button on the end of the main/ dip stalk that operates in the same way as the auto wipers.
That puts a symbol up (green) when the headlghts are on dip - if the headlights are manually turned onto main, the blue comes on and the green auto symbol goes off - go back to dip and it stays off!

Ps. Just found this, so it seems I'm expecting too much when the car is stationary and its light!
If your vehicle is equipped with this option, the headlight switch must be in the automatic position. Push the High Beam Assistant button on the indicator stalk (should be under the BC button).

Generally the Assistant only works at vehicle speeds above 50km/h and when there is no other lighting source on the roadway in front of the vehicle.
 
We have it on our 35i, which is an AUC. We turned it off after a week as it wasn't very efficient at detecting when to dip and the high beam stayed on too often, dazzling other drivers.

It's gets its chance! :D

I've never really found it a great chore to flick it into dip mode but if it's a system fitted it should work properly.

Wonder if it can be recalibrated? I used mine last night and it worked really well
