High beam assist

Is High Beam Assist an optional extra? Doesn't seem to work on my car. Can it be coded, or is it hardware-based?

I would take that as a bonus. Auto high beam is crap on every car I've ever had with it (except if it has matrix headlights which no E89 has).
Great for dazzling/ annoying oncoming traffic. Other than that a waste of time.

Seeing as poster near me and what the country lanes are like our way what the system can't do down country lanes is anticipate blinding someone when you can see their high beam lighting up the trees approaching bends or the humps in the road. One assumes it has to see the contrast, be it bright of the lights before dipping. And the dicks who go full beam just before they pass you. Sure that is done deliberate or is that the auto dip resetting..

Not a big loss to me not to have it. As flybobbie says, there are plenty of times when it might be more of a hindrance than a help. I had a Qashqai with this function until not long back and it was actually pretty good. I guess 10+ years' worth of improving technology, Nissan got it right...

i have it on mine but never ever use it. Sometimes it is constantly up and down when its busy and i feel that on occasions it seems to dip too late for my liking. i hate it when i a blinded by lights when car drivers/high beam assist doesnt dip them in quickly.so i certainly wouldnt want to do it to others

I had it on an F34 3 Series GT on a 16 plate and it was very good. (Even BMW couldn't explain why they made the F34 and the 4 Series Grand Coupe. They look almost identical, but every panel is different and not interchangeable!)

My wife's Mazda CX-30 has it and it dazzles all the time. you also have to disable it on every journey.

I find that if you always leave the high beams on, you don't have to worry about when to turn them off or on. :driving:

I have it on my 2015 Toyota Highlander, and it triggers on reflectors, street lights, and other lights sources way too often, removing your high beam even when there's no other car to dazzle... so manual is best.

the problem with that is every time you turn off the engine, you have to reactivate it. With the small amount of times i need high beam i dont ever bother to activate assist.

I had it on a Qashqai and a Honda and thought it was ok. My only issue was at night it didn’t always dip when someone was sat waiting to come out of a junction and therefore would blind them
