good afternoon,

I have just bought the Z4M and the only downside is that it has the standard stereo which has tweeters in the doors but is missing the bass speakers behind the seats, and while its not the worst i have heard (that was possibly the stereo i had in my CSL) its far from the best by far.

Forgive me if this has been asked 1000 times, i have had a look on the history but just want to check if anyone has a easy/cheap fix.

I guess the options

1) buying the Carver speakers, trim, amps etc and trying to retro fit the top hifi but i guess thats expensive, makes a mess of the car ?!?

2) Just changing the speakers which will prob make it clearer but give little extra bass and probably a waste of money ?

3) Is it possibly to retro fit some speakers in the gaps behind the seats, or a small sub in the boot or even some bass speakers like you get in the modern day BMW cars which sit under the seats ?!!?

Am i right there is the usual problem with BMW head units that it does not have a pre out to plub in an amp ? if thats the case how do they fit the DSP upgraded system?

appcreicate if anyone know as easy answer to all this ?!?

I'd be interested in fitting standard bass bins in the OEM location behind the seats and knowing the requirements to do so on the standard factory head unit.

I'm not aware of anybody retrofitting the OEM DSP stuff.

I think it would be soooooo expensive.

Much better aftermarket options that would enable you to keep your head unit (you need to with Nav anyway) but fit subs etc.
 
what would stop me putting these in with the standard system but obviously would need to fit an amp ?

I fitted 6.5" speakers in the cubby holes in my car,as I had them in the garage,but you could fit 6x9 or components there. Mine are running straight from a JVC head unit (4x50w),ran cables through cabin (easy job) and swapped the pins over in the adaptor plug so that the original weedy rears arent connected. Cheap upgrade sounds much better and easy to do. I bought the BMW speaker grills too so it looks a clean job.
