Chaps, I've read a few posts, looked on a bunch of sites and I'm getting myself confused. HELP!
I've seen hids direct is a pretty good site to go through. Now I've put my reg in which is for a 3.0si and it's got 9 options. Problem is I'm unsure which to go for. I think I'm either after 5000 or 6000k, 6000k I believe to have a slightly blue tinge to it.
My other issue is with auto lights. I've read a lot about some flickering, obviously I don't want this and I hear some kits cause this issue.
Can anyone point me in the direction of which to buy?
 
I had 6000k on an old car and i found that was the closest I could get to white.

It does seem to vary on brand though. I've seen 5000 that's whiter, and 6000 that's whiter.
 
I found 5000k strained my eyes, much happier with 4300k and it's the best amount of effective light output.

None of them should give you any issues as they are all CANBUS. Check the wattage, some of the difference will be 35/55W and some H7/H7R - you don't need the R ones.
 
i used hids direct was very happy with them .went for the premium ones H7 35w 5000k
fast start -about 3 seconds
slim ballasts i fitted everything inside the headlight no drilling

Stay away from 55w. They draw to much current and will burn your light module. Replaced 6 modules in past year everytime owners had 55w kits installed.

55w will be fine, the current draw is the same as the original bulb, so contrary to what others may say, you will not "burn out" any modules.

I had 35w 4300k in mine, and whilst they were an improvement over the original candles, I wanted more. So I went for 55w 5000k in both my dipped and mains - 5000k is a fair bit "whiter" than 4300k, BUT not as OTT ak 6000k and up, also bear in mind that the higher the rating, the less VISIBLE light they actually emit! I reckon 8000k hids actually illuminate LESS of the road than the oem 55w bulbs.

I bought 2 of the 55w canbus kits, with METAL bulb bases (avoid the plastic ones as they are thicker and a nightmare to fit because of this, also they cab suffer with the heat as they don't sink it away.

Also, I gained a MASSIVE improvement by removing my lights, taking out the projectors and cleaning the (cloudy as hell) lenses, as per following pics.

Thank you! So from that link on ebay, I'd need to get 2 ballasts and the bulbs themselves separately I'm guessing?

brought the same kit and fitted last night (much improved !) however im getting interference on my stereo when the Hids are on, did you get the same problem? if so how did you overcome it.

No, nothing at all in mine. Sounds like you may have a faulty ballast? Is one of them flickering at all?

No flicker that I can see, just thinking I did need to cut the positive wire to bulb and then reconnect (to get the connector though hole in bulb holder) wondering if this small breach could be causing the problem.

mine may be different, there was no way they would fit with out modifying, which i was trying not do , however I did end up semi flattening parts of it as the plastic bulb holder "bit" was much thicker then a normal h7 bulb.....I notice on ebay they sell "HID h7 bulb holders" with a cut out to allow for the connector to pass through, might be useful learning for anyone else that does it

Not sure if they'll for the E85, as the lamps are actually fitted upside down compared to most.

Not sure if they'll for the E85, as the lamps are actually fitted upside down compared to most.

Also that's why I advised against a kit with plastic bases on the lamps as they are just too thick, that and the fact that they aren't going to conduct the heat away as well as the metal ones.

I ordered a set "at 99p just in case" so i'll hopefully know in 20 or so days when they arrive
