Hidden wipers

The wipers on my 2005 CDN Z4 are lowered by one notch giving it a sleeker style. Should have come from the factory this way.
I did this after driving around with no wipers and loved the look. In OEM rest mode, the wipers can obstruct your vision.

1. Passenger side: Simply reverse the wiper blade to be smiling instead of frowning after lowering the arm one notch down.

2. Driver side: A bit more challenging in that the thin upper wiper arm needs to be bent to be parallel with the larger base part of the arm. Did it in a vice with leather so as to not scratch the black paint. Moved the arm down by one notch.

Comment: the driver wiper is now about 2 inches from the pillar when sweeping. However, I only drive in summer, and avoid rain.
The movement of the arms is very precise in that there is no extra swing flaying about at the ends even in full speed mode.
And the blades do not rest on the cowling (scuttle).

Worth doing it. When driving, the passenger blade is below the horizon, and the driver blade is barely visible at rest.

Enjoy.

It does look good, but I'd be worried about the wipers finishing on the scuttle (especially on the driver's side). The wiper blades are only meant to operate on glass, constantly rubbing on the scuttle could prematurely damage the blades or leave marks on the scuttle. I understand that you don't drive in the rain (intentionally at least) so this probably won't be a problem for you. 8)

Z4 wipers side view.jpgPictures can be deceiving. The driver blade is at least 1/2 inch from the scuttle, and the ends are in the air. The passenger end is in the air also. So there is no contact with the scuttle. I've attached another picture of the driver side to see how the bend is. You could adjust the driver blade rest point by bending the blade to suit.

BTW, it rained on the way home before taking the photos and everything worked "perfectly" fine.

Good to Know, your first pic definitely looked like the wiper blades were resting on the scuttle
