HID - Making the switch - Ballast locations?

After years of umming and arrrhing I have decided it is time to switch to HID's.

I bought a couple of sets from HID Direct and fitted the first set to my 2010 VW Touareg at the weekend. Amazingly easy job, and the results were very impressive. I wondered why I had waited so long to make the switch.

Started to look at the Zed so fit 2nd set and hit a bit of a snag. Where to locate the ballasts? On the VW there was a world of space in the engine bay close to the light units where I could screw and zip tie them in place, the Zed is a little different.

The passenger side was easy enough as there is space in the engine bay, but the drivers side is tight, especially with the windscreen washer reservoir location.

I was wondering where everyone else had located theirs?

If you go with slim ballasts, most will fit inside the actual headlights making it an incredibly neat and easy job.

That’s what most on here have done (myself included). I used the terminator kits on HIDSDirect I believe.

Thanks, I thought this was the case, but the ballasts I got were too big.

I've spoken to HIDsDirect and they are going to swap them for some slim line ones.

Glad I checked on here before cutting holes in the casing!!!!

Unlikely and a bit pointless. The self levelling of the type found on this era of car is only to correct the level of your dipped beam when you are towing a heavy load. They do not 'live' adjust as such or prevent momentary dazzling of other motorists.

Just use the screw adjustment on top of the headlamp and then the electronic adjustment in the car as needed

Result! Those guys seem pretty good with customer service to be fair.
