HID lights - again!

Whilst tinkering today I thought I'd fit the HID kit into my lights whilst they are off the car. Opened everything up but there seems to be more than just the ballasts to go inside the light housing. Is this normal as looking at nfarmers kit that he was selling he hasnt got the two black boxes

seems a lot to cram inside :?
 
That is the slimline ballast version. Apparently they are more compatible with the CANBUS system. The ballasts are smaller but there is a module between it and the burner.
 
The ones i got for the wifes fiesta are the same as yours. They say slim ballast... But the massive black block is more an extension of the ballast :roll:

But i'm sure they will fit inside the headlights as others have fitted similar kits.
 
That sure seems like a lot of stuff to place inside the headlight, I've used the other kits like nfarmers a few times without any problems. No idea why you would need any extra boxes etc?
 
Yeah does seem a lot to cram in. Suppose a bit of Velcro and a few tie-wraps should do it. Does the ballast get warm at all?
 
I fitted mine over the weekend and got it all inside the headlight.

Not a hard task (although putting the protective cap back on over the drivers headlight was a B*TCH!!!) and 110% better!!

NB: You have to modify the small metal parts that hold in the bulbs to get them to fit. Also make sure the kit you get has metal bases on the bulbs and not plastic.

Yep it is a trade off, larger (slightly) ballast and nowt else or a smaller ballast and the extra black box

Did you have the same kit with all the extra black boxes?
 
Leesfarm07, I've fitted the same kit as you. I sat the 2 black boxes side by side ontop of the slim ballast. Used black insulation tape to hold the 3 tightly together.
I then put double sided tape on the bottom of the slim ballast and secured the lot as 1 inside the headlight (quite deep inside on a slight angle.

All fits perfect and can still access bulb and sidelight easily

Leesfarm07 how did you modify the metal bulb holder? I've seen holders that are split at one end. Sadly mine are one piece.

I wanted to use the original clips so that I would be able to revert to original bulbs if necessary (side of road replacement or MOT failure) so I filled a little extra cutout out to allow through the large connector, see below.




The split holders were supplied as part of my kit but are available here http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/metal-retaining-projector-clip-for-hid-kits/

I bought a normal slimline kit off eBay

Came with the extra black boxes. Modified the H7 clip and job done.

The hardest part was replacing the rear caps back on the lights. I still don't think I've done it properly!

That's good news. Were you pleased with the results. Was there a noticeable difference between halogen and these?

I didn't modify the clip. It's been a while ago but I somehow got the clip over the lugs

Very pleased with the results, makes the car look much fresher and newer but still oem looking 8)
