HID headlight Conversertion- Your Thoughts

Have been reading this thread with interest. Can I check if the kits listed in the links fit the 06 z4 upwards as well?

Also any effect on the warranty if this is done?

Cheers

Has anyone fitted the slimline ballast HID's inside where the panel for the headlight bulb is? Least then you wont be able to see any wiring etc

Nope not yet but the guy on eBay said they fit straight in, no need to drill or leave any wires outside the casing!!

Hmm will give it a go then ;.) HIDs are well worth it, least the headlights are not as bad as other BMWs ha

I had a set of hids that went in my boxster, without drilling etc. They were bosche, very good! I'm planning on getting the slim line plug INS too

here is what he said

Dear aj4151,

sound good, and these will go straight on so no need for
another plug to make the z4 recognise them? Also do you do 5k temp?

Can I check if any of you folks have done this with the auto lights function. Does this interfere with changing the lights to the HID upgrades?

Hello, I have just purchased an 06 3.0si sport coupe with unfortunately no HIDS. The halogens are awful and need changed ASAP! I have read through this thread and am unsure which ones to buy? The set that a11y fitted sounds good but I also like the sound of the slimline kit mentioned above too which hides all wiring etc. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Also, people who bought the kit that a11y fitted, when it came to the soldering/scotch lock part of the method, would scotch locking be safe to do with the power running through these leads or would getting someone to solder it be better?

Many thanks

I looked into this. In the end, just upgrading the normal halogen bulbs to Philips xtreme gave me a much improved light without any upgrade hassle.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some slimline HID kits that are reliable and of good quality. I'm fed up of having yellow lights and want the 'xenon' look :) Links or recomendadtion would be great.

Whats the difference between 35W and 50W (I understand that 50W is brighter, but won't this cause overheating inside the headlight?) Any thoughts would be great guys

:D

Well digging up an old thread, but done mine today.

I ordered a kit I had on my e46, and was a slimline 6000k 35w can bus pro kit, but what came was a brick size ballast with 4300k bulbs (with a 6k sticker lol) so was not happy!

Decided to give the kit a go, well until I get my slimline ones through. Bulbs went in ok, and you don't need any special holders like you do in the e46. Ballasts would not fit in the headlight, and not sure if the mini ones would, well with the headlight adjusting itself every now and then. So mounted the ballast on the back of the plastic access piece that comes off. Not ideal but not much room to play with. On the drivers side there is the washer bottle, so had to put it next to that, as the panel would not close. What I had to do was drill the back panel on the headlight, well to get the wires in obviously. Did not want to but had no choice really, but if I can fit the new slimline ballast in the headlight, then I will buy a couple more and stick them on.

I have got some pics, but not uploaded them yet.

Light is amazing, and no one has tried to kill me for blinding them  And the beam is spot on IMO.

I installed mine today and managed to fit all the ballasts in the headlight. The light output is sooo much brighter compared to halogens.

Anyone thinking about it then I would go for it. Make sure u get the slimline ballasts otherwise you'll have to mount them outside of the headlight. I went for 5000K lights and they look spoton compared to other BMW's and Range Rovers I saw this evening.

£75 well spent I say :)
