Hi

I traded my much loved 350z in for an 09 Z4 coupe 3.0 Si (40k miles) in November, but I'm finding I'm not falling in love with the new motor.

I know its lighter than the 350 and obviously it also comes with run flats but I'm finding it skitting around and following any contours in the road the wheels find.

Is this normal behaviour or is there an issue I need to get checked out.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Yeah its a common side effect of run flats. If you do a search you will find numerous treads on the subject as the question often gets raised. You could ditch the run flats and you will find the handling and ride is transformed.

There are thousands of posts attributing what you've described to the runflats. I can honestly say my Zed is the worst handling car I've ever driven. I've finally bitten the bullet and I'm getting four Falkens put on when I swap to summer wheels next Friday. I can't wait to be rid of the horrible Bridgestone RFs. Will let you know the difference if you like.

I to was a skeptic on the tyre change after running RF's on previous cars without issue , but after going standard rubber the difference was night & day , transformed the whole handling & ride comfort & would never consider going back

Or swap it for a roadster. Handling is nicely softer than the coupe. Having said that the M is on standard tryres maybe that's it. But certainly the MR is a better ride & handling, that the 30si Coupe I test drove when buying. IMHO :poke:

Like you I was horrified and shocked by the tram-lining and the way the steering followed the contours of the road BUT stick with it - I too changed to Falken tyres and the ride and steering improved greatly - then the handling becomes so involving you wouldn't have it any other way.. ..

Thanks all. Your comments have confirm my thoughts. I will have to stick with it untill I have some spare cash.

I will gets some pictures up of my coupe soon.

Welcome MarkyF

The other thing to do would be to get an alignment done - then suspension geometry seems to be quite sensitive on our cars, so a few years of pot holes and kerbing may have knocked it out. Mine was awful, but combined with changing the tyres an alignment fixed just about all the skittishness. The other thing mine needed was new bushes on the front. Hope you manage to fall in love with it eventually.
