Hi all, as per subject, just here to learn, it's nice to see forums are still active with decent help judging from the previous posts on here :D

Hi, not yet, I'm on the hunt for either a E92 325i/330i or a Z4 3.0Si IF I can fit, I'm very tall so a bit worried, I hear mixed experiences regarding tall people fitting in the coupe Z4 haha.

I've just stumbled across this forum after doing a deep dive looking into N52 engines, as I'm daily searching for a car, I just want to be certain I can pull the trigger...

Please see my post here and let me know in the thread if you have any experience with my questions that I've asked, I would be extremely grateful!

Welcome to the forum.

I've replied to you other thread BTW.

I think 6'3" seems to be about the limit for an E86 to be comfortable, E85s might have slightly more headroom, but you probably need to try one. If you say where you are there may be someone on here who can let you have a test fit!

Hi mate, thanks, I've just replied :)

Haha, I'm 6ft8, so unless I can get a leg delete, a coupe is out of the question then, so I'll have to settle for a E92 I guess  :headbang:

Interestingly, I think my E86 is better than my wife's E92 for me (although I only drove the E86 home for 30 minutes 2 months ago, and that's it so far!). I find the E92 seat doesn't go low enough (power seats), and the top of the windscreen is too close to the middle of my vision, and it's just a bit... meh. It's livable, but I'd not choose to buy one of my own as a result.

I'm about 6.2 to 6.3, but have a long torso (32" leg), so if you have different proportions, you might be ok.

Good luck with the search!

That's strange, as I have 34-36" inside leg, and not a short torso, and I had plenty of room even in a E90 which felt smaller - I always find the coupes seats go further back in any car versus a saloon; this was very obvious with the e36 - I couldn't believe it when I drove a mate's saloon and had my knee jammed between the gearbox tunnel/heat controls and squished by the steering wheel, having had 4 coupes and been fine!

Maybe I actually have a tiny torso and it's all leg, and I just haven't realised haha!

I have with Z4's it is the seat that can be an issue, from what I vaguely remember, people said some seats are more forgiving, I'm not sure if that's just a 'sport' vs SE/standard seat or whether there are multiple variants of the sport seat? But it definitely seems to be a factor, as there was a thread with many tall people discussing it on pistonheads years ago haha!

It'd have to be a coupe if I had a Z4, I'm not a 'vert kind of guy I'm afraid! I can imagine my jaw would probably smash into the top of the windscreen frame on a convertible

To be fair I think the seat in my E90 would go much further back than my Z4 because that is limited by the rear bulkhead.

If you're anywhere near GU20 you'd be welcome to have a trial fit in mine.

Thanks mate, that's very kind of you!
I'm unfortunately not even close haha! I think I'll just have to buy your 330i instead ;) if it's an E92  #hastobeacoupe

Shame, a couple of people have tried mine for fit. Hopefully you'll find one nearer to home.

You can't have my manual 330i either, but as it's a Cat N E90 you probably wouldn't want it anyway!

Yeah sods law mate, I'm used to it, it's why I can't own RX7's :( Bloody tallness haha!

If your E90 is a CAT car, then we could surely make it into a coupe/92 ;)

It has to be a coupe for me, I adore the pre-lci E92's M Sports. There is a local naughty white M3 E92 with the carbon roof, that's always bombing about, wonder how many sets of bearings/cranks he's on now :driving:

I hear the S65 likes to pull the crank too tight into one of the bearings, and it gets very hot and cracks and/or twists the block into that same bearing, as the timing chain is pulling it too tight - seen this happen to multiple S65's, and it's always the same bearing that does it. Apparently it's common haha!

I like my E90 as a Saloon thanks. :D

It worked much better that way when I took some mates to see a tribute band last Friday, and it's only a Cat N because it needs a rear bumper cover.

S54, S65 and S85 engines are all known for wear on crank rod bearing shells. I had new ones fitted to my MC soon after I bought it.

Haha, I'm all about the coupes if it's a 3 series, saloons are what 5 series are for!
However because you have a Z4, it's fair enough to have a saloon for taking friends out, as you haven't settled for one over a coupe ;)

I also hate the front and rear lights on the e90 vs e92, coming from e30/36 where the lights were the same front and rear (bar slightly narrower on a e36 saloon) I think it's wrong of them to change it on the e90/91!

Another thing, is what is up with that awful Pre-LCI front bumper on the E90 M Sport? It looks nothing like the E92's, yet the rear bumper is the same style? Makes no sense? And the LCI looks like a silly smiling mess! The LCI E92 has ruined the shape of the headlights too I think, the rear LED lights are nice though.

Also, why has the E90 M3 got coupe front lights but saloon rears - such a strange creation, whereas the E92 M3 looks how it was intended, IMHO.

Your mates should drive in their own cars haha ;) that's why I like the idea of the Z4 having a tough s... policy when it comes to passengers/backseats haha!

Any high-revving engine is basically rubbish lifespan-wise; the S50 also did it, my mate had to buy 3 engines to get 1 good crank for his S50B30, and the original crank had only done 36k 1 owner and destroyed the bottom end and crank...

We've taken apart Porsches, and they're hilariously bad...

The N44/N45/S55 does the same thing, destroys cranks/bearings, so there doesn't seem a lot of hope for anything fun in the future 2nd hand.

I 110% believe the B58 will be no different, and where all these idiots/chavs/financed owners just rag them from cold fart pop and bang mapping them down 5 gears trying to woo teenagers and jailbait, the gearboxes will be wrecked just the same in years to come, what a waste...

Reminds me of when E46 M3's were new and the chavs/drug dealers had them, ragging them from cold, banging the limiter, the same with the EP3 CTR's...

Stuff nowadays is just meant to rip you off, fail and then rip you off again for a replacement and repeat, that seems to be the case with literally everything now, doesn't it!
