Hi out there in BWM Z4 land

Hi out there, I have a 2009 BMW Z4 (E89) with manual transmission, and have had nothing but fun.
I love being able to (with one button) origami the top into the trunk and enjoy the outsides. I love the sowing machine precision sound of the 6 Cylinder engine, as you're revving it up through its gears, whipping up a curvy mountain road.

It just plane rocks. :)

I found you guys because I am having a problem with my top. It closes (goes up) without any problem, but wont fully open (go down). The top firsts folds itself up without a problem, but then starts getting these major jerking fits when it starts dropping into the trunk. It will jerk 3 or 4 times, then the little red light next to the top buttons start blinking, and the top stops moving.

I am getting an ERROR A6A3 - temperature Sensor. I am also afraid the motor has gotten wet from the water in the trunk. I seams that suggestions on the net is the motor for the top needs replacing. I'm not a pro mechanic, but I do like to get my hands dirty like replacing the O2 sensors, so I feel, or more like hope I can fix the tip on my own. If you guys have any hints, please send them to me.

Thanks for listening to me.

Sounds like you are smitten Rich. Alas I know little about folding tin tops. I'm sure someone will though. Welcome to the forum. :)

Rich welcome to the forum, Please meander over to the E89 problems board Here's some good reading for you:

https://z4-forum.com/threads/hourgl...roof-maintenance-and-additional-tasks.130932/
https://z4-forum.com/threads/hourgl...-in-the-roof-environment.148657/#post-2091928

And pretty much a search with "top" and member RobbiZ4 will be a good read. After doing some reading, Post the details of your specific problem and the details that you have that would help others help you on the board. I surmise your pump soaking in a hot tub of leaked water is part of your issues. The error is a pump failure one. Post there and you will be supported.

Hi, Rich, Welcome to the forum, E89 roof problems seem to be a thing on here, so there is a lot of info on them. Hope you get it sorted soon. (y)

The internal temp sensor on the pump can get corroded and that MAY cause an issue like yours..
