Hi,new to the BMW world, currently have a Renault Clio 182 that i have had for 6 years with a long list of mods and love.Had a 172 cup before the 182 for 5 years,so always been in the Renaultsport World.

Looking to sell my clio next year and look for a Z4 3.0 si coupe,so reading/watching all up about these cars,so any help buying guide etc and what things to get done first once i have one would be great please.

Some photos of my old 172 cup and 182 which i have now.

Welcome aboard. There was a chap on the East Anglian FB Page selling a blue E86. Not sure if it went or if he still has it? His name is Sam Doggett.

EDIT: Forget that, he sold it!

Welcome to the forum Stevie.

Your Clios look like they must have given you loads of fun. An E86 will also be fun, but very different!

When you start actively searching as well as the usual checks you'd do for any car it's worth opening the tailgate and checking for any rust on the edges. The rear brake pipes are also prone to corrosion just in front of the passenger side rear wheel where road dirt can accumulate and hold moisture. The engines are prone to oil leaks from the cam cover oil filter housing gaskets when they get brittle with age. The electric water pump will die at some point so if a car has had a replacement that's a bonus as new ones cost £250 to £300 (so long as you don't buy from BMW)! Some people replace them as a preventative measure as you'll get over-heating within a mile when the pump dies.

It's worth looking for a Sport model as they all had the desirable M-Sport seats, although some SE models had that option. Standard spec was pretty mean so Bi-Xenons, heated seats, rear parking sensors, cruise control and cup-holders were all on the options list so if any of those are "must haves" bear that in mind. Of those cruise and cup-holders are fairly easy to retro-fit.

Once you have one, assuming it's a manual getting the transmission fluid replaced is probably worth doing even if BMW claim they were filled for life. Removing the Clutch Delay Valve also improves clutch engagement when changing gear.

Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything, and good luck finding the right one. 👍

Thanks @Mr Tidy some great and helpful info there.
Will be looking for the man coupe model with xenons and in silver or blue if i can.

yeah the clios are great fun but always wanted a bmw and fancy a change, new project.Something less hardcore than the clio.

Here's a link to a really helpful database someone on here compiled:- https://tonyz4c.z28.web.core.windows.net/

If you use the last 7 characters of the VIN you can get details of the full OE spec.

But the right interior photos will tell you if the car was built with Xenons. If there are 2 thumbwheels next to the light switch the car didn't have them as one of those is to adjust the head-light height, whereas Xenons are self-adjusting so there is only 1 thumbwheel.

Welcome aboard Stevie. Always loved the Renault Sports from afar. Ever since one pedalled away from my ///MR on a twisty wet B road. :driving:  Enjoy your hunt and don't rush it. The Z4 is such a different car, be sure to drive a few along the way.;)
