Hi from a Newbie (no longer) looking for a 3L Z4

Just to prove I'm not making this all up, here's a few pics from inside the garage after a bit of engine detailing (not that it was dirty to start with thanks to the previous owner's efforts keeping it sweet).

I shoved some CD's in the changer and was gobsmacked by the sound quality. I think I counted 10 speakers, proper bass as well. I guess this speaker system was an option when new, nice surprise anyway.

I've been reading about sound generators, I can see there's one in my car. Decided against messing about with it when I'm not going to drive the car, can wait 'till next weekend. Fingers crossed it will not be raining then.

A black grill is on the cards, are they easy to swap? is there a recommended source to buy them from? (I don't fancy plastidip I'd rather just swap them out )

Wow, your car looks lovely OP.

You must have the upgraded stereo - if you go to a site like VIN-checker and put in the last 7 characters of the VIN it will tell you what OEM equipment your car had.

I haven't messed with the sound generator on mine as I have a non-standard exhaust and would rather listen to that!

Sorry I cannot help with your grill question, but I am sure I have read about people buying them rather that painting/treating original ones.

Hope you are enjoying your Z4! :driving:

Hi, looks to be in good order :)
The grills are easy, hold the vertical slats & apply an upwards force, then swing the lower edge of the grill away from the car
Rob

Thanks both.
I ordered a black grill(s) off ebay last night only £20 as they are used ones. They're gloss finish, if i dont like gloss look ill paint them matt. This way I can experiment and leave the original ones intact.

Car looks great - well done, I went with gloss black grills to match my alloys - interested to how they go on your new Zed :)

Glad to see your keeping her clean Buddy

I approve. Best colour too (apart from Valencia of course). Same year as yours, about the same mileage, but a 2.5 auto.

And the heated seats are compulsory for me as I usually have the hood down all the time!

The modding bug has already kicked in then, its infectious this forum! :poke:

Thanks to the wax / sealant on the paint, the mud and dirt I collected on the way home more or less fell of with just a light hosing. I'll be keeping it all very presentable from now on.

Maybe time to change the profile picture....

I guess so, tbh I like keeping cars standard but in as close to A1 condition as I can (I'm the chap that could easily spend 2 hours every other weekend detailing everything), so a grill change is pretty adventurous for me. I can't really afford to get into proper modding, though I quite fancy some drilled discs when the time comes.

I don't think he would really start a fight, he owned a Porsche previously I believe,so there's no way he'd be willing to get his hands dirty

As soon as I have a replacement I will :) Just don't want to leave it blank

Most Porsche owners are too busy rebuilding their engine (or having it done for them) to get into such things! :D

Nipped out in the Zed for a quick spin this evening, for the first time since collecting it, the roads are dry. (The ones ive driven up to now have all been on wet roads). Have to say I'm impressed, for an old car it feels better than i expected when pressing on, very stable and well planted. Can access all the power without overwhelming it, the chassis feels like it has more to offer. Nice to remind myself after a 5 yr gap that RWD is soooo much better.
