Hi all,
I'll be taking delivery of my ex BMW Management Alpine White SDrive35IS on Tuesday. I paid £39,495.00 for the car, and it has 2400 miles on the clock. It comes with Nav Pro, Heated Seats, Folding Mirrors, Comfort Access, PDC, Kansas Black Leather, and was £50k on the road when registered in May 2010. So, I think I got a very good deal. I've been wanting this model Z4 since I first saw and test drove it at my BMW Dealer in March. I've traded in my Jaguar XF as the missus has now passed her test and owns a small family car. So, she no longer has an excuse to make me keep a large 4 door saloon!! I'm still looking for a decent insurance quote (cheapest I can find is £530 F/Comp with protected NCB - and thats with 9 years bonus, no accidents or convictions & a full licence for over 25 years), so I am hoping Chris Knott will be able to come up with something more competetive. Are there any other insurace companies that members would recommend as being cheaper than those on the price comparison websites? Great to be a member of the forum, and I look forward to taking delivery of my car, and chatting with you all!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like a bit of a beast you have bought! :D Look forward to seeing photos.

Insurance wise, I'm with Admiral. Just renewed a couple of weeks ago actually. One of the price comparison websites was about £30 cheaper than the renewal quote so I phoned them up. They basically cut the quote by £70 so I can't complain. I've had full license for 17 years, NCB for same length of time, no accidents or convictions or penalty points, car is on driveway at night, only used for social and commuting and a low yearly mileage of around £6k. Price is £400 for me on an sDrive 23i.

PS. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Jag XF, lovely elegant car, but there are too many of them on the roads. Not a issue with the E89 or in fact the 35iS :D

Well that price is good news OP as it's a few hundred pounds more than I paid for mine, (I don't have Nav) nice car and about time someone else bought an iS on here

Thanks for the welcome! Kryton, I haven't seen many IS cars around, in fact there were only 2 used examples in the country for sale when I put the deposit on mine last week. The other one was £41995.00, but had cruise & voice. I think cruise would be a waste of time when you are having so much fun driving, and I probably wouldn't use it. Voice control is OK with the roof up, but not so good with it down because of outside noice. Z4 Beemer, yes the XF S is a great car, and much quicker than the Z4 up to around 50mph. Unfortunately, all the power is low down the range, and it struggles at anything more than 60mph. I bought mine when there were relatively few on the roads, but now they are everywhere - as you say. I've gone off the looks of the front end of the car (too Mondeo), but sideways on and from the rear it looks great. Best interior of any car I've owned too, but not nearly as much fun to drive as the Z4.

hello and welcome, sounds like a good price, sure you will enjoy, your insurance quote sounds good to me, but then mine are always dear due to post code

Welcome. Sounds like a nice zed you got yourself. I never really liked the latest zed but the more I see them the more I'm warming to them.

Taz x, the coupe is a lovely car. I saw artist impressions of a new coupe based on the new Z4 on Google earlier, and they look awful. Rather like the back end of a PT cruiser grafted onto the front end of a Z4. They were only artistic impressions, and hopefully BMW would come up with something a lot more satisfactory.

lee789, Just watch the Over Boost (OB) doesn't catch you out when it comes on, i.e. going round a very fast corner at a speed you are comfortable with when all of a sudden the OB comes on and nearly takes you off the road because you are now going far to fast for the bend.

This happened to me and I had to brake very hard to bring the speed down :o I now do not accelerate hard when coming up to a corner

Quick questions. The salesman told me the car comes with 5 year service inclusive package. Does this cover all labour and materials (apart from wear & tear items) at service times for the first 5 years/60,000 miles? If so, at 300.00 its a bargain. As far as I remember though, the spec sheet said the cost was 626.00, which doesn't relate to either the service inclusive package cost of 300.00, or the inclusive + package at 1000.00. No idea where that figure came from!! Also, is the battery on the new Z4 in the boot, and if so is it a vented battery. I usually leave my car battery on permanent pulse charge using a CTEK.

I took out the Service package for £300 5 years/50k miles, it's a no brainer :)

I'm sure BM will raise the price though

Kryton, Do you plan to keep the 35iS for 5 years? I thought it would be getting swapped for an M when it's launched? :poke:  :P

Hi Kryton. Thanks for the tip on the OB. I saw the Clarkson Top Gear review on the 35i, and it was full of praise for the car. Then I read the Top Gear magazine review that absolutely trashed it. Similar story with a lot of other motoring journalists. I had no problems with the handling or ride quality, in fact I thought they were both excellent. I test drove a Boxster S before deciding on the Z4, and although it is easier to handle, it's not so involving to drive, more expensive with similar spec, slightly slower, common as muck, and has a rag top. Each to their own, but like the service pack, for me the Z4 was a no brainer. PS, I won't be cornering at 100mph, so I should be OK!!

Hi Z4 Beemer. The salesman swore blind there would be no M Z4, but I don't believe him. I imagine the car would carry a 50k + price tag before fitting options, which would be a very high price to pay. I think the SDrive35is is quite quick enough for me, although M might address the handling issues reported by the journos.

I've got photos of my car that the salesman e-mailed to me, but I have no idea how to upload them to the forum. HELP!!!

Lee welcome to the forum and congrats on the new purchase. Autocar tested an S-Drive 35is in white on their 90 second verdict. Looked great !

To be fair to the salesman he was just trotting out the usual BMW line about no M version blah blah blah. BMW must think we're stupid ! They know that we know that nobody would buy the S-Drive 35is if there was an M around the corner. The new 1-Series M Coupe is a case in point - brought out right at the end of the current model run and probably won't be sold for more than 18 months to two years. Expect the same with the Z4 when the E89 version is facelifted in approx 2 years time. They swore blind there would be no M last time around and lo and behold what's that on my drive....a Z4M.

I bought the Service plan because it was good value and it would be a good selling point in the near future, and yes I plan to buy the 'M' when/if it comes out as long as it's £53k-ish max, and not to late in the car's life cycle, not worth paying more than that for any BM, as you start to get into other (better) cars price bracket.
