Hi Everyone,
I’ve been looking into getting a Z4 Coupe for a couple of years and think it may be time to finally take the plunge. There is one that lives near me and every time it goes past I have the feeling that I got to get some of that. I have been driving an E39 2.8 for about eight years and have managed to keep it completely OEM right down to the weird cassette player / CD Combo. Its in great condition however in the last couple of years it’s starting to cost me more to keep it on the road than it’s probably worth. So time to take the plunge, get out of my arm chair and get into a little coupe action. I will be therefore looking for help, advice, tips and tricks form the Z’d veterans. I’ve been reading the forums avidly and find them fascinating. Any advice on what I should be looking out for would be most welcome. So hello to you all and here’s to my next automotive adventure that I shall surely keep you all updated on.

OK so I have a bit of a dilema and would love some advice before taking the plunge. I live in central London and as such any journey usually starts and finishes with a lot of stop start driving through heavy traffic. I tend to only drive at weekends so dont need it as a commuting car. My heart says that I should go for a M series, because once you finally get on to some open roads, the fun factor increases dramatically with the extra power and using a manual. My head is saying that maybe as a compromise I should get an Auto as it will be a much more pleasurable experience when I am stuck in stop start traffic for ages. What are the M's like in traffic, do they drive you insane but on the flip side how are the auto's to live with as a sports car, do you always feel you should have got an M? Thanks in advance.
 
I have A 3.0 auto, its a great drive. the auto box work really well, with sports button pressed. I have no regrets buying it.. However an M is a different driving experience altogether.. I guess you should drive both and decide what suits. You could always move to an M in the future when and if your car use changes...

go for the M. All I read on this forum are members who either a) regret not getting the M or b) those that upgraded to the M and regretted their prior non M purchase.

I'm sure the auto would be infinitely better in traffic, but if it's only a weekend car then I'd imagine the infinite benefits would outweigh it!
