Hi-fi variations

thanks for your advice Screamer. I am well aware of the sound alterations on the bose systems. I do not use a cheapish bose system at home for the exact reasons as you've explained.

Regardless of bose / non bose, I am still not happy with my current DSP / Hi Fi system that is suppose to worth c£800 as an option.

I do not have a built-in Sat Nav in my car so wasnt able to access to the 7-band EQ. I only have the normal 3 EQ options such as Jazz Club / Church / Off / etc. ofcourse I also tried to tune the treble / bass balances. Non of these helped to improve the quality of the sound. In the end of the day it wasnt so much the EQ or how loud the bass / treble is... The quality / clearness simply wasn't there.

I would be interested to listen to another car with the same system instealled in it.

So by the sounds of it everyone is happy with the HiFi / DSP system?

I'm really confused by the HiFi setup -

Apparently my 07 coupe has the Hifi upgrade 9acording to the dealer) and i see where the spaces for 10 speakers are. But when there is music on, the only sound that comes from behind is from the small circular speakers (about head height). No sound seems to be coming from the larger rectangular grilles behind the seats. When i fade the sound to just the rears, there is still nothing from the large grilles where i think the subs should be... is this normal, could the subs be disconnected, or have i been misled by the dealer when they said my car has the hifi (not carver) upgrade??

Any help much appreciated, cheers!

If it never had the upgrade you'd have storage bins instead of speakers, so that's the first positive news. Have you tried turning the bass setting higher, maybe it's down at minimum? You'd definitely feel the boom if they're working properly.

IIRC there was another post recently where the subs had stopped working.

Thanks for the speedy post, that is positive as they're definitely not storage bins..!

They're not making any sound, all the bass is coming from the sub / mid in the foot well and nothing from behind the seat. I'll get the grilles off and have a look at the connection over the weekend i think.

Yep I can't seem to find the post I referred to, maybe I imagined it...

Anyway, have a read of these too -

I’m not :(

Had the pro 7 in my old 535d 2005 and I have to say I was more then please so when I started looking for a Z4 DSP was top of my list not easy to find.
But the sound in the Z is not that good almost sounds like one of the speakers has blown.

Exactly what I am thinking... Thanks 2Dog... hugely disappointed.

Strangely enough the sound is disappointign especially for rock / alternative music but the speakers are suprisingly good for electro / dance music.

try it yourself and see if you agree. The amp and speaker systems seems to be more catered for big / simple symphony of sounds rather than a more complexed range and depth in rock / alternative music where it sounded extremely boomy and blurry in the car.

For those trying to check the function of the speakers behind the seats, the large speakers behind the grills are subwoofers and are tied in with the front speakers, so if you fade all the way to rear, you won't hear much.

Just thought i'd add something to this thread: i've just come back off my holi's in Mallorca. I took my iPod with me, which at all other times just sits in my car, permanently connected (via the Intravee II). I haven't bothered to fiddle yet, but the sound quality is now significantly worse than it was before I went. The reason? I'm pretty sure it's the iPod's EQ setting. I fiddled with it on holiday, although I can't remember what it was set at before... Hopefully it'll just be a case of going through them 1-by-1 until it's back to where I started. Got a feeling it might have been set to use the Loudness preset (I tend to find that numbs the treble a bit, which can be a bit sharp with my Shure E2C headphones), so that'll be the first one to try.
