Hi Fi Identification

Suppose it saves them from having to make specific door cards for different systems, and most people would never know.
 
Makes a good place to mount the tweeters when upgrading the front components, its what i did as the seperation of the stock speakers is a little to far apart for me. Also you can get 3 way components which usually come with 4" mids that are the perfect size for the door.

Yep, was an ebay special. Been watching them for months, managed to blag this for £250 as I raced 120miles to get it within hours of my offer. I should have bought a 4.100 really, but hey it's damn cool.

Gonna get some new 3 way front components, 2x150w rms and then I think I'm going to put 2 x 8" subs in the cubbys, bridged at 300w rms. Not sure yet how I'm going to forge the box, but defo under the oem covers. WIll leave the rear speakers as I don't think replacing them would make much difference, but I might use their feed to get to the PDX.

You can then put it straight in as a high pass, or filter it, which I'm doing. I haven't got this sorted yet though, and don't want to brag on my solution before it's sorted.

Basically if you've got the mid or high end systems, it's very difficult to improve it. If you've got the basic, and some cash, you can make a monster install. As soon as I get cracking, I'll have a thread with some How-Tos, as I'm also retrofitting digi tv :oops: This car is absolutely awesome, a definite keeper. Only problem is it's taken me almost 3 years to throw as much cash at the techy stuff as I do on fuel / tyres :thumbsup:
 
With 150wrms per channel it should be plenty to run a 8" sub of each channel without bridging. Whats good with the amp is it gives out 150wrms for both a 2 and 4 ohm load like the JL slash amps do.

I picked up my JL 300/2 and 500/1 Slash amps for £300 delivered, bargain :thumbsup:

Ps. If your looking at keeping the stock headunit i'd look at a cleansweep or LC6 to get your low level amp inputs.

Also the rears are rubbish, i dont even use them now.
 
Any suggestions on good 3 way components, hopefully that will fit straight away?

I seem to be limited in knowledge to what I can find on ebay. I think it's an addiction.
 
Ive read on here someone fitted Rainbow SLC365 3 ways, not cheap though at around £320. I was lazy and just went for a 2 way.
 
Not decided on subs yet either, I'm assuming space will be a big problem. Tempted to just order the Carver ones, but there's some issue with voltage if you read shipkillers page. At this point I'll probably hand it over to the Pros and get them to fit all my bargains for me.
 
I've been following the post, and I think that I hace a top HiFi, so where those the amp goes in the trunk (just to check)? And the top HiFi is the Carver system? The Thx system is a higher level of the nav?
 
I believe the topsystem was designed by this Carver blokey but after the facelift they changed the amps to this THX system, also called the Logic7.

The amps are on the back wall of the boot, take the carpet away to see.

The only thing that gives my system away is my headunit. Oh and the 2 12" subwoofers in the boot. Considering the size of the boot in the MR2 the Z4 has a massive boot.

I'm fairly interested in that kinda thing, if it's all stealth and oem looking on a standard head unit?

Haven't decided it all yet, but now I've got the big bit it's not far off.

Hopefully over the next few weeks as things get decided I'll put links and a how-to or something.

un1leash - good call on the jl subs, might have to get a couple of them.
 
Right.. now have focal 6.5" components, and a JL Cleansweep to go with the Alpine PDX4.150. The focal's seem to be the best speakers and all have excellent reviews, these are the Polyglass ones, not the entry level Access.

The cleansweep is a mega piece of kit .. it transforms the high level speaker output from the head unit into low voltage line-ins, but does it with an active DSP processor - you play a special CD with it all rigged up and it "listens" to the output and adjusts the EQ accordingly, so you get a nice flat curve.

Just gotta get a pair of subs (maybe focal again) and it's all ready to be fitted :D 8)

my gf thinks I'm hooked on ebay.. but the end is now in sight..
 
Let us know how the Cleansweep performs once you've got it set up. It doesn't get too much of a good press in the car-audio forums, comments such as too much hiss etc.

I know people's views vary greatly with regard to sound quality so it would be good to get an idea of what a Z install sounds like.

I had the JL Cleansweep installed in my E46, I added 2 after-market amps to my nav radio and it sounded pretty good (no hiss), got a little feed back but once I adjusted the settings on my amps all was gone. I would recommend it to any one that wants to add amps and keep the stock radio.
