Hi everyone!!

I have just sold my motorbike so hopefully will be able to get my z4 in the coming months!!

I have been wondering about what to get though im 24 so insurance is an issue however which engine should I get and what are the pros and cons with each?

I was thinking either:

2.0
2.2
2.5

Does the 2.5 differ much from the 2.2? Is there a big difference in acceleration? Is the 2.0 even worth looking at?

thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum

no idea about your engine choice - I went straight for the 3.0 :D

Happy hunting

antman84, welcome to the forum... :driving:
My experience is extensive with the 3.0 and very limited with the 2.5.
We don't get the 2.0 and 2.2 on this side of the pond.

We often see the question about is the xx engine really much faster than the yy and of course it is and each step up makes an incremental difference and really is noticeable ans you move up a couple of steps.

The 2.0 is of course a 4 cylinder. 2.2 was discontinued sometime back and therefore 2.5 is really the entry level 6.

I think its more a question of deciding what you want and can afford, bot to run and insure.

Bottom line is I've never seen a thread where someone has later posted that they wish they'd opted for the smaller engine that the one they purchased!!!!

I'd clearly recommend the 2.2 or 2.5, as they're both inline 6. That's a big deal for me, although performance-wise the 2.0 is not that different from the 2.2i. Trust me, you won't regret buying a six cylinder!

Is the 2.5 the same as the one they used to put in the 3 series? If so, it's a great engine. I had a 325Ci before the Z. Yep, the 3.0Si will kick it, but that 2.5 was more than adequate and was actually quite peppy. As above, try them all and get the one you like and can afford. All of them are fun.

I'm 23 and have a 2.2 :)

I love it! It has plenty of power and sounds great!! I had a Audi TT and mercedes c class before and the Z is way more expensive than both to insure. So its worth getting quotes.

2.0 is IMHO not right with only 4 cylinders- but there seems to be little if any dif between 2.2 and 2.5 ( i have 2.2)

Im 23 and picking up my 3.0i on Friday :D (Fingers crossed there's no snow)

My current car is a VX220 so i wanted something with similar performance and i was advised that a 2.5 wouldn't be quite there so i opted for the 3.0i. Insurance isnt too bad with bell. Im currently paying around £700 for a highly modified 2.2 VX (ins group 18) and they want an extra £120 for the Zed (group 19), thats with 3 or 4 years NCB though & no points.

I hate the feeling of buying a car then wishing i had spent that little bit extra on the upgraded spec when i get used to it :( I've had that feeling twice now with a saxo VTR & Mini Cooper. Both times i considered the 'next one up' (VTS/Cooper S) but didnt for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, then regretted it until i sold them :(

Im sure you will be more than happy with whatever one you go for, but do plenty or research first.

Good Luck!

I don't think you'll regret it. My buddy drives a highly modified VX220 turbo and we have swapped cars in the past and he's well impressed with the 3.0i Considering the performance of the VX I think you'd really notice it if you dropped to the smaller engines. Suprised the insurance goes up so much with the Zed.

Good luck and let's has pictures ASAP

Thanks for the response guys

Yeah The 3.0 tempts me a lot!! Is there much difference on insurance between engines ? The only quote I have so far is for a 2.0 an thats only 70 pound a month compared to 40 for my golf which is group 10.

I think ill have to test drive them all and see which one i like the best altough the thought of a six is very appealing so ill probaly leave out the 2.0!
