Hi All - Heated Seats question

Hi All,

Just joined as I am seriously considering purchasing a Z4MC that I test drove yesterday. I think I have been offered a pretty good deal (and may be able to get a bit more!) with a part exchange for my 350Z, but the main thing holding me back is that the Z4MC doesn't have heated seats. Other than that it is a good spec.

I use them daily in my Zed as I have a bad back sometimes and they do help. Plus leather does get really cold in the winter. My question is - is it possible to get heated seats retro fitted either by BMW or an independent, and any idea of the cost? I have feeling that it wont be cheap. I'm going to give BMW a call tomorrow but forum members always seem to know more than dealers.

Ive done a search on previous posts and couldnt see anyone who had done this, particularly as the M Sport seats are different.

Awesome car by the way, I really want it now.

Thanks
Mark

Welcome  re the heated seats i would imagine this can be done sorry no idea of price.

How do you like the Z4 over the 350z

Have a dodgy back myself had an op a few years back and the only thing i get sometimes with the M.Sport seats is a strange feeling in my legs when i get out of the car after a long drive say around 4 hours.

Been talked about a lot recently, personally I wouldn't buy it if you want heated seats, although there are quite a few coupes without them.

Right, the retrofit kit is £30, then you need a new centre console switch at £148, plus two new seat covers (as with the M seats the elements are sewn in) which are £411 each, all plus VAT.

So you are looking at £1150 plus fitting.

MY local independent (Emtec Salisbury) is offering a retrofit for about £300 fitted. They are made by the same people who make them for BMW.

Thanks for the replies. £1150 plus fitting is a bit steep :o but at least yo get new leather for that too. £300 sound much more like it, is that each?

I'm tempted to leave it and wait for the right car, but this one is at a private dealer and £3k less than anything from BMW and they are offering me a good p/x as well, so even if i spent the money on the seats it may still be worth it. I could see if I could live without them and then fit them if not i spose.

Quite different to the 350z, you sit lower, the cabin is nicer, and you notice the extra power more the higher you rev it. Had a few jerky kangeroo moments in low gears tho, especially with the sport button - which ive read about. Hopefully I will acclimatise to it. Thought it was quieter than the 350z but i do have an induction kit fitted to mine. Also will miss the folded mirrors and cruise a bit. The good thing with the 350z is everything is standard.

It's also due a second service in around 2000 miles which im told is around £500, though will check with BMW tomorrow.

I've gotta let the guy know tomorrow and am still in two minds.....

I'm with gannet-it was 4.5F yesterday morning when I left the house. Boy, was I glad I had those "tuschi toasters"!!!!!!!!!

I emailed emtec and they said the cost of the kit fitted is £292.64 inc VAT which seems pretty good.

The kit is for both seats. It is made by a German company called WAECO, they are the original equipment supplier to BMW for heated seat parts so essentially it is a genuine part. The switches supplied with the kit are a universal switch, but we could obtain BMW switches if required (at extra cost), although most customers are happy with the switches provided. BMW do not offer this as a retrofit and the main dealer in Salisbury also use this kit.

The seat trim is removed and refitted during the installation, it is a routine operation and leaves no evidence that the seat has been stripped and refitted. If new leather was required or requested we could of course fit that (at additional cost).

The only problem being I'm in the midlands and they are in Salisbury so logistics of getting it done may be difficult. Plus I haven't bought the car yet :)

Sounds pretty good to me.
