Heya from Cambridgeshire!

After months of longing for a weekend/summer car and being tunnel visioned on an NC MX-5, I stumbled across this forum and realised that an E85 is as good as an option, if not better.

I've seen some stunning examples and already my mind is swimming with the specs to look out for and I've got questions about things I definitely don't understand the least bit about, but this seems like the right place to be.

I'm on the hunt for my E85, don't know if I need a 3L, don't know if I need the LCI, all I know is I need a convertible capable of motorway cruising to Cornwall, Wales, the Lake District etc and then enjoying those incredible places to the maximum once there.

Seen a couple examples on FB Marketplace, but hoping to absorb as much wisdom as possible before I'm ready to grab something (preferably in blue)!

Welcome to the madhouse.

After all if you are going to buy a fun car 6 cylinders sounds much better than 4!

You'll find loads of information on here, but in simple terms:-

Pre-LCI were 2.2i (170PS), 2.5i (192PS) and 3.0i (231PS) with the same engine just in different sizes so running costs are much the same, although the 3.0i was the only one with a 6 speed gearbox.

LCI models were 2.5i (177PS), 2.5Si (218PS) and 3.0Si (265PS) that are also the same, albeit later generation, engine with similar running costs but all had a 6 speed box.

IMHO the biggest benefit of LCI models was that Sport models all had the desirable M-Sport seats as standard, which were a rarely specified option on pre-LCIs.

By all accounts heated seats are pretty essential in any E85, but I've only had E86s.

Montego Blue looks good!IMG_20191229_143358.jpg

Welcome aboard. A lot more room in an E85. Though for corners the newer MX5s have it by a distance.

Welcome. Looks like you’re eligible to join the East Anglian Z4 fb page.
You may then find people nearer to you whose cars you can check out to see what floats your boat.
In fact there’s a chap on there called Cyrus who is toying with selling his very nice facelift 2.5si. He’s near Royston.

Hi from Cambs, too...

100% you need a 3ltr in Montego Blue. Simples. 😉

Hello welcome to the forum, yes make sure whatever the engine size it's a 6 cylinder, they all sound amazing.

Not sure if I'll miss the handling capabilities in the twisty stuff vs an MX-5, but given I've only ever owned one car and it's an R56 Mini Cooper I'm sure I won't be able to tell the difference overly, and more to the point I'm certain I'll find my driving limits before I find the cars.

Not seen anything yet in Motenegro Blue which is a shame because your E86s look mint

There's a 3L in Canterbury that caught my on Autotrader but it's black, and at a more reasonable price I've seen these two

Depending on many things, that car in Royston might be just the ticket.

Cheers for all the help and support thus far

Get yourself on the EA group then and you can at least get a look at it.

Of those two on Facebook I'd go for the 2nd one as it has done less miles and is a facelift with the very desirable M-Sport seats. It must be Midnight Blue or Monaco Blue looking at the photos.

The other one has done more miles, isn't as powerful and will only be a 5 speed.

Disclaimer here: I haven't read either MOT history!

I've not read the MOT history of anything yet either, dont' want to start reading and get too hopeful haha.
I've applied the East Anglea Z4 group, pending acceptance now

Not seeing your application?
Did you answer all the questions as it’ll auto decline if you don’t

Might be that it auto declined in that case, there was an error with the form when I was doing it and I had to refresh so might have done something weird

Try again and message me your fb ID and I can push it through
Can't even find the group anymore when logged in. Can find a link from google but when I go to it I'm met with an error saying...
"Content unavailable at the moment"

I don't think I can DM on here yet, so if you can DM me first then I can send over my details.
Sorry to be a pain so soon after joining 😅

You've made 5 posts now so should be able to send a PM.
