Hey guys I'm new and got some questions

So I just picked up this alpine white on beige 06 Z4 3.0Ci with Nav, heated seats, steptronic, prem. pkg, no sports package 16,900miles. I got it for $32,040 with taxes and dmv fees etc. A couple of questions I have is 1 it's supposed to have a premium package but it has no xenon lights? I just noticed this at night I'm so disappointed! Is it plug & play to have new ones put in? Also, my car doesn't seem to have security...just lock and unlock. Idk, these features were all standard on Audi TT's back in 2000 along with things like heated seats, which don't get very hot in a Z4. Can I also have the dealer add security, it has an SOS button but no security...funny. I'm also surprised it doesn't have homelink, another Audi standard feature. The manager at the dealership also said there was only 1 key! So now I guess I have to order another $100+ key and get it programmed. The car though is very composed over the road, and I like the styling which took me years and years to get used to. Anyways I've heard so much about BMW that even though I swore never to get one, I couldn't live my life in ignorance and had to see a real difference. So far what I like about this car over my MK1 TT is 1 there's no latch to secure the top, and the 255hp engine which is sweet. I'm still trying to get used to everything else. I tried searching the forums for xenon lights but had no luck. Any helpful answers and ideas to further enjoy my Z would be greatly appreciated. So far the only real mods I want to do is replace the ugly amber lenses, have a remote fob programmed to open and close the top, and get a laser jammer.

Welcome to the forum.... I cant help you with the questions but Im sure someone will be along shortly who can :)

Welcome to the Forum!

1) Xenons are not plug and play in any vehicle. There is a conversion kit that does work with the Z4 (ballasts, wiring harness, lights, etc.)
2) Security system is not standard equipment with the Z4, but can be added along with the Homelink system, at your local dealer for a nominal fee.

The most strange is that they told you that there is only 1 key.
The car should have 3 keys. 2 full featured with the 3 buttons and 1 wallet key (the small plastic one).

Welcome to the forum Marcus. Sounds like an excellent color combo, looking forward to pics

Being extremely cold-natured, I find the seats VERY warm and quite frankly wouldn't prefer any hotter of a setting then you get when it's on high (all 3 green lights illuminated). Maybe the zenons only come with the sport package? :idunno: . I do however find it odd that they only gave you one key. They should at least have given you two if the prior owner lost one or two of theirs. As far as security systems go, like ovrkll said that is something you have to have programmed by your dealer but it has the capability. Not everyone has their activated.
Sounds like you may know a bit about cars. Perhaps finding these things out before purchasing would have been a good idea. I hope you're happy with and if you can get past some of the idiosyncracies, you will love it :)

Well on edmunds.com review for a 06 z4 they wrote "An optional Premium Package includes HID headlights, a one-touch power operation feature for the convertible's top, auto-dimming mirrors, power seats, memory for the driver seat and Bluetooth connectivity." http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/z4/2006/review.html I have all of this except xenons. So I guess I should have brought a checklist I don't know. I just fell in love when I saw it and started negotiating a deal. It was one of those I'll buy it today if I can get it for this price. Anyways, I'm glad to hear about the ability for security to be added which will be a must, and I just read the manual and figured out I can open the top via the remote! It's not exactly one-touch but good for now. All-in-all I'm liking this car more and more everyday. It's so nice I think it's almost too good for me. The inline six is really rev happy like a 4 cylinder and the car just drips with class, maybe borderline snobbish. I think these cars are really special.

marcus1701, welcome to the forum...
Concerning the Xenons. They were not part of any package on the 2006 3.0i or 3.0si. Edmunds is simply wrong.
Enjoy your Zed... :driving:

Welcome  sorry to here your probs not nice when you've just bought a new car.

Re the seats mine get very hot very quick so do not need them on long.

Re the keys as said above should be 3

Have a 2004 3.0 se and a lot of what you list is standard may be US spec is different to UK.

What do you mean by security system as i have Alarm + Immobilzer standard are you talking Trackers

Hi Marcus,

I just got my Zed (only 2.2l though - enough for me!) about 2 weeks ago and it's fantastic! I really looking forward to seeing your photos of the Zed! :P

Oh I do have a security....it just for whatever reason blinks red after a long while. I love it a lot so far, and it just Goes.

Hi. I had xenons on my last car but not on my Z4. To be honest, I haven't missed them! At the end of the day they are only lights and both xenons and non xenons work well! Just think of the weight saving!

Also had heated seats on my last car but I never used them to be honest!
