Hey all, just a few noob questions

Hey all,

I am thinking of buying a 2004 BMW Z4 2.5l. It's silver and has about 60000km on it. It's going for about $24000 and I just had a few questions.

- Is this car ok to use year round in the Toronto area?
- How much does it cost to fill a tank
- On average, how many KM's do you get per tank?
- How is the reliability of the car?
- Any major problems I need to be aware of?
- Anything else you can tell me about the car?
- Do 6 feet tall people fit comfortable inside the car?

Well I am looking at buying something somewhat fuel efficient and something that is reliable. Other options I have on my list are Honda S2000, Porsche Boxter or a Mini Cooper S.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks all

Welcome to the forum!

Im 6 foot meself and have no trouble :)
Can't give exact kms per tank cos we use miles over here - and it depends how you drive it and mines a 3.0 - sorry not much help! Does use less fuel than my old hot hatch :D
Reliability is such a subjective issue... Ive had relatively little problem with mine.

Ok I guess I forgot not the whole world uses KM's. Well about how many gallons does it take to fill the tank and how many miles can you go on a tank of gas? I am sure I can figure out the liter/100km's in my head.

Thanks

My overall average since owning the car is about 28/29 mpg, I get around 300 miles per tank - depending on my mood  a 2.5 would probably be better on fuel though. Check out the General discussion, there are a number of threads regarding fuel consumption :)

Welcome to the forum! I am sure that some of your Canadian breathren will be along shortly to answer the questions, but I can tell you that 6ft. fits in the Z4 without any problems :)

6ft in a Z4 is easy, you'd need to have strange body proportions to not get comfortable with all the seating adjustments possible.

As for mpg, well I seem to be doing a bit better than Gannet, I get around 34mpg with my 3.0l, thats with a typical commute. If I go out for a more spirited fun drive, then of course it's a good bit lower, but I'm not sure I want to accuratly measure mpg on a spirited drive :|

Hi. I'm from Montréal and here are my $0.02:

I had my Z4MC in March 2008 and with summer tire it was dangerous so winter tires is imperative. Other people would be better suited to describe their winter experience since I have not experienced
one yet. From what I have read, with good winter tires there is no problem. It needs to be washed often however due to salt. Cost for a tank = price per liter times the capacity of the tank. My z4MC has
a 55L tank so at today's price we are looking at CAD $85 for 55L of Octane 93 Premium gasoline. :x

I have an ///M :) so it's worse than a non-M. I am getting 16L/100Km. :(

I've had no problems whatsoever so far. I am 6 feet tall and I fit perfectly in it.

The only bad thing I have to say about the Z4 is that at some point you have to get out of the car. :(

24K for a 60,000Km 2004 2.5L car. It seems a bit excessive to me. 21K-22K seems more reasonable. Any options on it?

Porsche BoxSter! Here is a nice alternative.

Good luck.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the reviews. Well I have ruled out the S2000 since it gets horrible gas mileage compared to a Z4 and a Mini Cooper S and apparently 6 foot tall people will be looking out the very top of the windshield so its out.

Now thanks for your answers. It seems like the Z4 is better suited for me. Yes I know winter tires and a necessity for winter so don't think I don't know about that as my boss as a 530i and can't move in winter with the summers.

As per the price. $24k for the z4 is actually kind of cheap from what I am looking at. Most of the other cars are like $26-30 for the same thing. No special options as far as I can tell just the basic car. No M seats or anything. If I am looking in the wrong spot, help a guy out by showing him the right spot to look for one.

Well thanks again
