hesitation at 4500rpm

have recently just got a 2003 3.0i z4. Very happy, great performance but am curious if it is normal for there to be some hesitation around 4500rpm when accelerating. Most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gears. Almost like it pauses for a second and then suddenly kicks in with more power.
any help would be appreciated

Mine used to do it a bit, and there is a natural dip in the torque curve not long after 4k, but if you try using higher octane fuel it should go away or be far less noticeable :thumbsup:
 
If you try accelerating in 3rd up a hill through that rev range you must notice something, unless like I said you're running on 98/99.
