Hesitating at lower gears

I have a 03 z4 2.5 (automatic) that’s new to me. As I start from a stop and accelerate I get a short hesitation between first and second and then from second to third gear. After that none. Is this normal for that year? Also recently I had a new ignition coil and new plugs installed Thanks!

Hard to know without further description, and perhaps a video might help. The ‘box is quite a slow one, at least compared to the GT86 auto I had. Do you have the same hesitation with the sport button “on” - if you have one?
