Hesitant Acceleration

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has come across this issue on the E89 manuals.

Driving well 95% of the time, however occasionally the acceleration just completely cuts out/hesitates. Usually at lower gears.

I find it usually gets stuck around 2k revs and however much you press the pedal/switch gears, the acceleration just doesn’t kick in. This can happen for up to 10 seconds. After that it goes back to driving normally.

I’ve had to stop a couple times now and had a dodgy incident with a lorry right behind me on a slip road so not the best problem to have.

Going to get an OBD reader as there are no faults showing on the dash. Any thoughts?

You are on the right lines to get a decent code reader that understands BMW specific codes - spend £50 not £10 & it will be genuinely helpful.

What's the service history like?

Plugs / injectors would be my first 'guess' - especially if you have patchy service history. 2k revs is where the turbo kicks in - could be a sensor or a failing turbo issue too - but that's very 'guessy'.

Occasional fail sounds more like electrical part failing (sensors / plugs / injectors) than a air leak type issue.

Get the code reader hooked up & see what it says.
