As the title suggest I've come across hengst oem z4mr airfilter & wondered if they are ok as they are cheaper than what the steeler sells them at. They are featured on eurocar parts web site & according to them are made in Germany.
Are they BMW oem or is the slight of hand wording in the sense they are oem size & shape.
Reason behind this is I've noticed my air filter does appear to be rather grubby and I have another 5k before the oil service.

Don't know who makes the BMW ones, but if you haven't got an aftermarket (Mondial or otherwise) warranty then you can fit what you like, even the £10 Guttman one that ECP list.

I can't see anywhere on ECP's site that claims the Hengst filter is BMW's supplier (probably are though). The only thing I see says that they make filters to guaranteed standard and quality, and also supply some manufacturers.

The 'recommended' label on the ECP site usually just means ECP make more profit on that item than on a similar product by another supplier - not necessarily a better quality product.

You can also do interim oil/air filter changes any time you want, just don't reset the indicator.

BTW, despite BMW claiming in their 'BMW Genuine Parts' marketing materials that the filters are 'matched' specifically to an engine's performance, there seems to be quite a few different engines that use the same filter, which is strange as you'd expect an S54 engine to have different requirements to a 520i.

I don't see it as strange they have a simple purpose, they are designed to let the good stuff through and protect from the bad.
