HELP!!!

Hi,
iv got my 03 2.5 z4 which i love,iv owned the car for about a year the hole time iv owned the car the roof has never worked properly!
the function to open and close is perfect but only on the second attempt
the first time i try to open it,it will only open about a inch or so,i close it try it again, and it opens fine?? if i close it again for a 3rd time it will open fine and everytime after it will be stop on untill i leave it for a hour or so an it goes back to how it was in the begining
can anyone help please??

Purely a guess, but wondering if you have lost some hydraulic fluid. If the motor was shot I doubt it would work at all.

Maybe electrical, not enough power.

Leaving it an hour sounds like its had long enough for the car to go back to deep sleep.

Have you had your battery tested?

Only sure way would be to get to the roof motor and get a voltameter hooked up, check the hydroloc fluid while there.... Sadly thats not at all easy

I did give one sensible answer/recommendation...

TBH, and to make a contribution, I am with Stuart on this, hydraulic issue...... Or the motor is on the way out. Mine idi similar before it finally gave up the ghost. Not for a year though...
