Your boss isn't wrong. Get commissioned and think about Canada later!

Otherwise you might meet 2nd Lt Truman RM at some point in the next couple of years. (Assuming he passes selection) :)

Im at a bit of a crossroads right now, its just the added hoops to jump through that im not sure i can be doing with, but ive got age on my side so i ll wait and see....

Who knows maybe he will be flying out in helmand in the back of one of ur choppers...now thats a scary thought :|

One of his thoughts is flying, the marines have told him that's an option once he passes out and has done some time. He's also interested in SF.

Quite a few guys here are bootnecks and are aircrew, i know he wants to go officer but in the unlikely chance he doesnt make it or finds it a bit too posh and goes for the NCO route he could at least be an aircrewman.....rather than pilot

He needs to get through selection first. From what I've seen, short of SF selection, RM officer candidate is about as tough a selection and basic training as it gets.

It scares the crap out of me but I'll be one proud dad if he makes it.

It's nails! Seriously nails. I've done a few of their final assessments and got nowhere near the times required to get an officer pass. The RM officers I know are scarily fit.

Prep is absolutely key, for the AIB as well as the PRMC. I'm sure his AFCO will tell him the times required at PRMC. One thing I will say is to not bank on his preferred sub specialisation being available once he's in, especially Officer Aircrew, he'll have to pass grading which for some parts is simply something you can or can't do.

He's got a fitness requirement to pass basic entry and he can walk that. He's in the USA at the moment but before he left he was at the gym twice a day, and running or swimming every day.

RM officer is nails, fact. I wanted to do it if i flunked flying, then go RM flyer.. but decided against warfighting all together in the end. Luckily it sets you up nicely for SF if you can do it :) I've heard some great stories of rifles on the ground in helmand getting all excited when they hear RM are coming to join the party.. even with their rivalry.

Good luck to both.
