Help with Z4 pls

Hi to all, as yet I do not drive a Z4 however I am looking for some opinions from those in the know about the E89. I am thinking of one as my next co. car and i am curious which model will fit the bill.

At present I drive a Scirocco 2.0L DSG with approx 265bhp, after looking through the specs of the Z4's the 23i and 30i look to fall within the price brackets (the car will be up to 1 yr old not new)

I think I would go for a manual and the co car tax will likely be quite a bit higher on the 30i so the 23i might be the only realistic choice but would I be disappointed with the power of the 23i? I think they are about 204bhp or so and being N/A a remap won't make that much difference. The 6cyl sound appeals though so I wonder if that would be enough with the lower power? I haven't driven either model as yet but I have driven the first gen Z4 and loved it.

Welcome  Can't help with the E89 questions, but am sure someone will be along shortly to give advice. Good luck with the search :)

I think the 23i and 3.0i have the same CO2 emissions and similar economy. The 3.0 will be ~ £4k dearer to buy like for like....
The 23i has enough power for me.

It will not only sound better but look a million times better than that squashed Golf you're in now :poke: . Because of this you won't worry about the performance drop as you won't be embarrassed by being seen in public anymore :P On a serious note, the only way to find out is to go and drive one;good luck.

Issue will be can you handle all the extra attention irrespective of whatever Z4 u drive.

For what it is worth , I have a 224hp, 240Nm MINI Cooper S and recently bought a 23i. The most noticable thing is the power delivery between the 2 cars and not the headline figures. So the differnce between your VW and any of the BMW with be the biggest, not the 23 or 30 choice.

Blimey I thought all the cocks now drove Audi's! Have you been left behind? :D On a serious note I appreciate I asked for opinions and irrespective of method of power delivery I think the drop from 260+ to 204 is a big deficit - especially considering the BM is heavier too.

the power difference is the only thing you will miss but the e89 is a stunning car..... there is hardly any difference in emissions on the older engines

and yes all cocks do drive audis now :D

Good man! I think I'd prefer the 6cyl to the newer 4 regardless of model - they do look stunning and like already mentioned would get a lot of attention! Yours looks smart in white with the 19's. Can I ask what your MPGS are like? My commute is all urban and currently get about 23mpg

Stick with the Scirocco if you like a hot hatch.

Z4 = slow, impractical, tiny boot, only come in white.

ST270, we came off the back of an S2000( with 240 bhp and 0-60 in 5.9 secs) before we test drove a 23i. We didn't find the 23i lacking in urgency and thinking back this is maybe down to the smooth power deliverey of the 6 cylinder. The biggest difference you may notice is in the fit and finish of the Zed which is superb (well ours is)

In the end though we wanted to get as much power as we could afford within our budget so plumped for the 35i. Looking at Autotrader one year old 23i's are about £22k/£23k and 30i's not much more.

I've watched a few you tube clips of the 35i and it sounds fantastic (even better with the Eisenmann exhaust!) One of those would be my choice if it was entirely my choice - however as it is a co car I need to look at the compromise and like you say the 30i are not much more than the 23 so I think I'll focus on these. I suspect they will wear the mileage well too so that opens the possibilities of the slightly higher mileage 30's too. I can imagine the fit and finish is impeccable they certainly look it in the classifieds!

the m sport kit and wheels was the only way to go for me, although the older 30i and 23i didnt have so many m sport ones available as the current load... but if you do find one within your budget, it is definitely worth paying the extra for

my current mpg of mixed driving is about 34mpg, so i imagine urban would be around the 28mpg mark although the quoted is 31mpg

I think by the sounds of it the 3.0l is the one, you'll find the performance probably better than your current because of the drive layout and as for the engine.....

However as a company car is it possible to wait a while to see if a 28i comes along, a lot less tax to pay, but it is a four pot turbo not a sweet six

Yes I agree the drive layout is very different and the rear drive will likely feel totally different to the current car - I didn't realise that they were thinking of launching a 2.8 - this might be worth considering and I'm not in a massive rush to change so cheers for the heads up!

The 28i was launched at the same time as the 20i, so 6 months or so ago, might actually be longer.

I currently own an E89 35i DCT and it rocks, But to get to the point, i drove a 2.3i a couple of years ago against my e85 3.0 and was shocked by how capable the bloody thing was! apart from the improved handling (by about 300% over my old E85 with all of its suspension mods) it was sure handy!

No probles with power, besides..... slow down and enjoy the rays with the roof down. :D
