help with wifi advice please?

So I'd just like to point out that I am hopeless when it comes to this type of stuff and I have no clue what means what.. So my problem:

I don't like using my cellular data on my galaxy s5 active phone or on my LG G pad 7.0 because I don't have unlimited data. So when I'm home with both my tablet and phone next to me with data turned off and both of them connected to the same WiFi my phones connection is unusably slow but, my tablet connects to everything instantly with no trouble ever. I'd also like to point out that I use them across the house from the router so I can't get closer and I can't move it closer to my room.
 
Get a cleaner app on the phone to delete all the crap that doesn't need to be there and kill off any background apps that don't need to be running.

Update the phone to the latest patches or operating system. Might need to plug it into a PC or laptop or Mac for this.

Delete the wireless connections set up on the phone and let it connect again. Enter the WiFi password and see if it's better.
 
Common problem with the S5. If none of the suggestions Google comes up with work for you you'll have to hope it gets fixed in a software update.
