Help with Suspension and Tyre Set Up

Hi All,

I just recently got a Z4 Roadster so this is my first post on the forum after looking at it for a while. I was hoping some of use would be able to guide me and give advice on tyre and suspension set up as the car seems to have a couple small issue.

It has 19" Alloys with 255/40/R19 (Front) and 255/35/R19 (Rear). The rear drivers suspension seams to be much lower and its the same on the front passenger side. I think it may have different suspension. The front Drivers tyre is also showing signs of rubbing although the passengers is not. There is also a fair bit of tramlining currently - I am getting the wheel balance checked soon.

What tyre and suspension sets ups do use have on 19" alloys? I will be using the car daily so wont be using run flats or wanting the suspension lowered.

can you just clarify? Do you mean the offside front and rear suspension has less clearance than the nearside, as though the offiside has dropped lower?

Im no tyre expert, but the 40/35 size tyres are exactly the same as on my old E85, difference was, they were on 18" alloys, plus the front tyres were only 225, im wondering if this is the issue, but im sure someone with more knowledge will advise you soon

No the Rear offside and front nearside appear to be lower that the opposite side. Which does not make sense as the front offside is the tyre that has visual rubbing.

Yes there was no cracked springs at all. I am most probably going to change the springs/shocks and tyres on all 4. Just need to find the best set up.

Yes an E85 what size would you say is best for 19" alloys? To make sure there is no chance of rubbing etc.

I have 235/35 on the front and 265/30 on the rear..doesn't seem to be any rubbing

Thanks ill check those sizes out might not be wide enough though for the alloys? and what about the rear just leave as is?

Have you checked suspension bushes, any collapsed? How much is the drop on the corners, there will be a manufacturers tolerance of ride height between sides, usually 10mm is acceptable, more than this and you have an issue

I take it this in on 19" alloys? How is the override with these? Is the speedo extremely out?

Yep 19" .. speedo is about right when I have used my gps in the car..

Ill need to check. The rear is the worst on the nearside there at least a couple issues between the wheel and the arch on the other side I can barely get a finger in the space.
 
do you know if it is sport or SE spec? If your on SE spec, I just checked and have 3 finger spacing between arch and tyre at the rear, not very scientific but will give you an idea. Sport spec is 15mm lower or one thick finger! lol

If you go for new shocks and springs, the forum advises Bilstein shocks.

I would suggest that 235/35R19 is as big as you want to go........if those aren't wide enough for the front alloys then the wheels are probably too wide !

As mentioned by Truman 265/30R19 goes nicely on the rear :thumbsup:

Ill need to check that out its not the SE seems the offside rear is far to low, ill also check out the Bilstein stuff

Thanks for the help! Ill need to see what can fit on these alloys - hopefully I dont need to buy a new set.
