Help with shipping of wings.

My Z will be getting painted at the end of the year and I'm going to get new wings as she's a keeper. Auto doc sell various makes but won't sell me them as they say they're too big to ship to Scotland. I'm not paying the BMW price of £550 each. Anyone used a courier or had large items shipped from Germany to the UK?

No response, but I'll continue. I spoke to Autodoc with no joy. They do not have a pick up service from their warehouse! Anyone bought anything directly from Diedrichs? They supply Autodoc with wings.

What about using a German Freight Forwarding service like this?

just bear in mind that the ones from BMW will fit better, wings from any other source will be pattern parts with all the associated issues that nearly always come with them.

Make sure you do some research on the “fit” of Diederichs’s wings. If you are getting them painted anyway, you may be better off getting a second hand OEM set in good condition, which will be guaranteed to fit properly.

Sounds good advice. I don't know for a fact but I'd also expect those cheap patterns to be made of lower quality steel.

not quite the same situation as you, but I recently shipped a rear E86 wing from NI to England, and basically the only courier that I could find that would do it for me was UPS. It was costly enough, but many couriers won't ship them either due to panels being easily damaged, or the size of package is too big. Try UPS.

I'd actually thought of driving over to Germany and picking them up myself but they wouldn't accommodate me. After reading the replies re the quality of after market wings, I'm now scouring eBay for a decent pair. Trouble is, all I see are wings with corrosion in the same place, around the top of the wheel arches. Seriously thinking of taking them off in the winter and trying to deal with the rust myself before I get the car painted in the spring. If only sacrificial anodes worked on cars lol.

How do I do that? Has anyone on here had the experience? Are Blic wings any better?

Thanks for that. Going to definitely check that service out, even if it's not for car parts.

I will send you a PM …as I am about to strip a car which has been garaged for the last 8 years …all 4 corners are pristine on the top ..but the proof is once I get them off …Colour is Black
