Help with service history.

Very much value your advice. Thank you! Sorry, I don't mean to come across as cheap. Just been saving for ages to buy a Z4M so feel very nervous every time I get close... I'll get there!

I think if anyone knows about buying Zeds it’s Mr Wilks .. I think he’s owned most of them

I think the thing to bear in mind is that as these cars get older and potentially rarer and more valuable .. is that history and condition becomes the biggest driver on value

A little research has highlighted that this car seems not to have had the all important running in service and that some of its subsequent history may be suspect. It does look on face value that the service book may have been doctored to make it look like its had things it hasn’t had done

A serious buyer who shows due diligence would run a mile from it based on that

The seller may find an unknowledgeable buyer but as the cars get rarer and older buyers are likely to get more and more wary/diligent

I personally wouldn’t want to put my hard earned cash into a car that might prove difficult to resell .. especially if I paid top money for it

I’d pass and wait for a cherished car with a known and verified history to come along

When I am buying a car I am not just interested in the price on the screen, but how much am I going to have to spend on it in the next 6-12 months. Things that I am interested in are: How much tread on the tyres, how much wear on the brake pads and discs, what are rear wishbone bushes (lollipops) like as they can start going at 50k, do the rear springs look like they have been changed because these can go at 50k, I don't know too much about the N52 engine but from memory water pumps can be an issue around 50k and are expensive to fix. If you can do a lot yourself, it may not be a big deal just material costs, but if you rely on a garage, it could get expensive.

Well being bored I’ve done some digging with BMW on your behalf

Feel free to ring BMW customer services yourself to confirm

Hi Earthdweller. Are you saying if you ring BMW they can give service history? In the past I was told the only people that could give that was the garages that had done the work, BMW don't keep records, which makes it difficult to fill in missing service records.

If you call BMW they can tell you the dates, mileage and locations of each visit of a particular car to the dealer network. For details of the work carried out at each visit you have to contact each individual dealer.

Pretty much what Chris said

Bmw will tell you where/when .. that should tally with the history with the car .. any more details needed then ring the dealer named by BMW

If the dates and dealers don’t match ... well
