Help with rear 'squeak' noise from the rear

Hi
Not long had my 2.5 and it has started to make a 'squeak' noise from what I think is the rear passenger wheel. The squeak quickens as the speed increases so naturally thought it was something in the rear wheel/ brakes etc. the noise goes if the wheel is under lateral load I.e going around a right hand corner. The rear discs didn't look to cleaver so changed the discs and pads but the noise is still there. I have got the 108 split rims on the car and noticed that when the wheel was off the middle part had some slight play in it. Is this right? I have never had split rims before, once bolted on the car there is no movement.

Any help or advice on what to check next would be gratefully appreciated, thanks Dave

It could be the wheel that has some movement in it that is fault, try swapping it to see if the noise moves !

Hi thanks didn't think of that so will give it a try tomorrow. I have noticed today that the noise goes completely under acceleration anywhere between 1/4 and half throttle not sure if that is significant or not

There was a thread on here before , The OP. had a noise from the rear wheel, he thought it could be a wheel bearing, it wasn't and he was ready to change the diff. when he (or the garage) discovered it was a split rim causing the noise !!

Edit:- had a quick search ..http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=44513&start=15, second last post.
Good luck !

Well I pulled the wheels off today and tightened up the split rim bolts and all was good and quiet for 10 miles, then after going round a roudabout the noise come back louder then ever so stopped and called the AA, He strpped the brakes down all ok and he thinks it is the CV joint (velocity joint) and or drive shaft, has anyone had experince of these going? i have had look on line at the parts and I think is this the centre drive shaft bearing and the grooved ball bearing or even the propshaft coupling? The noise is at the rear wheel as he thought it may be either a wheel bearing but there is no excessive play/movement or even a spring that had come off the brake shoes. Any help or advice would be great thanks in advance

Had a noise (like a mosquito buzz - like something rubbing against a gear cog at high speed)

Turned out it was the wheel bearing - I too thought it might be something more serious in the rear axle as I couldn't feel movement in rear wheel - relieved to have sorted it with wheel bearing. Hope you get a straightforward fix.

Cheers thanks going to get it picked up tomorrow the noise is quite loud bit like I had stuck a stick on one of the wheel spokes and it is hitting the shock on every rotation, but a little bit mechanical (obviously lol). It's certainly around the hub. With the wheel off everything is free and good no signs of anything hitting or rubbing so it's got to be a bearing of some sort

Well I am really confused now, thought I would change sides on the wheels just to make sure it isn't the wheel and now there is NO noise at all, nothing not a sound which in some way makes me feel worse trip to the garage I think
