Help with pricing / advice on car sale

All:

So I’ve put my car back up for sale now the summer is kind of here and that more people are looking for roadsters.

My car is known on here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=47073

It’s a fantastic example and wants for nothing. The car is fully speced bar extended leather (rare), folding mirrors and TV. Yes the mileage is high - but the history, BMWSH and condition is great and the price adjusted to suit.

I will stick 12 months MOT on it for whoever buys - but apart from this, I’m not sure what else I should do to attract some interest?

All thoughts, opinions and feedback welcomed

Cheers
Jamie

I would get the MOT done now for the sake of a few days on the one month cross over that way a buyer will know there is nothing wrong with it and see a full 12 month ticket. Your two problems are: the colour which divides opinion and massively limits your market. Loads will say they love it and it’s the best colour etc but I bet most would never actually put their own cash into it. Mileage over 100k is a massive level for people to get over, it would probably be better if it had 130k. Have you had a trade price quote to see how much lower their bid is than your ask? GLWTS as it does look very nice.

+1 on the above, it's the mileage. It shouldn't matter, but it does unfortunately. I think there's a mental barrier with being over 100k and I think most people will want under this when they're spending the best part of £8000 on a sports car. Just for info I got mine a month ago for £8250 which is same year/engine as yours but slightly lower spec and 69k miles. For me I would sacrifice spec for lower mileage, guess a lot of people are the same :( GLWTS though, hopefully the right buyer will come along for you.

This is good to know - thanks for the feedback.

OK, thats actually not a bad price from webuyanycar. Your add on the forum is very comprehensive with no waffle and great pictures. I would suggest you knock £50 off the ad price to £7950 and hope we get some nice weather and the phone rings. Best of luck

Apparently WBAC tend to knock 20-30% off of the price they originally quote for various (tedious) reasons when the inspect the car.

Wasn't there a coupé with near 100k mileage that sold recently for just under £8k? is is Nightyard's?

I think £8k is a bit steep, I think £7k is a more realistic starting price.

If you leave it the WBAC offer to expire they may well come up with an increased offer.
That happened when I sold my Boxster where I drew probably £800 more than the 'book' price for the car even allowing for some reductions for a couple of paint chips.

EDIT: It is Nightyard's car:

£7500.

low spec, but coupés tend to sell for £1-2k more than roadsters, so £7500 is probably a decent starting area for your car.

Just a tip on pricing, stick some NATIONAL searches in to Autotrader with different car mileages etc, then when you have a range of prices in mind narrow down the geographic search to say 150, 100, 50 and 20 miles. You get some quite dramatic geographic variations in both availability and prices, from this you can work out who you are competing against and adjust your price accordingly.
2nd if your car is genuinely sorted with nothing to bid you down on that's not in the advert, set the lowest price you will accept - and make it clear in the add that the price is fixed. Two advantages, first I've actually sold on the phone this way (subject to description being accurate) and some people are relieved not to have to 'dance the price dance' when buying. It's always worked for me I've sold many many cars over the years, always on AT (I know everyone has their favourites) and never had a 'sticker' on my hands.

GLWTS

Here's a price guide from April btw, calculates yours to £6960 private. Saying that I don't think your price is the problem, just the 100k mental barrier.
