Help with price if selling to a friend?

Hi there

A friend/colleague wants to buy my Z4 (E85) and I'm not sure how to go about finding a fair price.

Can you help please?

It's a 2003, 3.0litre, manual, roadster, SE, MSport suspension, stereo upgrade, heated non-sport seats, silver/black, 56,000m, some service history (enough - just!), no damage, inside or out. 9 owners but several of those were at the same address.

I planned to keep it so in the last year I have re-located the (v.recent) roof motor, cleared channels/water traps etc, renewed 4x discs and pads, new front callipers, drop links, wishbone bushes, front shox, etc etc so there's nothing to do and it drives really nicely. Wheels and tyres are all good.

Still steering fine on original column, which I keep well lubricated...

Asking prices seem all over the place, it's impossible to know what they actually sell for so all help gratefully received.

Thank you and best wishes to all.

Mates rates 5k. You could possible get more because of the low miles if you advertised on here. High number of owners and part service history may put some off but if the mileage checks out against the MOT history and its been loved (sounds like you have) then it could go for quite a bit more.

I think 5k might be a tad expensive though, remember that is now 2006 si territory as we have seen recently. I was thinking more in the region of 4500.

I think £4500 is about right in the current market but I'm sure Mr Wilks will be along soon and he'll know

Maybe we need a poll :D

You say, you planned to keep it, did you change your mind or did his approach influence your decision? I'm just thinking if you regret selling it for circa £4.5-5K finding another at that age/price point won't be particularly easy.

I know where your coming as to pricing reasonable to a friend but end of the day , it's worth what it's worth , your under no obligation to sell it cheap unless it has faults and he knows about them and accepts it sold as seen .
I've been in the same position a few times and I always ask myself , if they found a few hundred quid under the mattress would they give it to me because I'm a mate ?

That was the number in my head too

Thank you all for these great replies. I suspected it might be better to keep the car so that's what I will now do.

Best wishes
