Help with front suspension identification

Hi guys,

I had a mechanic check out my 2003 3.0 Z4 and got told it needed the following;

Left and right front upper shock absorber mounting
(mounting bushes cracked, mount cracked)

I'm having trouble identifying EXACTLY what parts are required as his description is a bit vague. I've looked at http://www.carpartsdiagram.com/2007-bmw-z4-front-suspension-schematic-and-parts-diagram to try and get the exact part names and numbers and have taken pics. My guess is part no. 12 and 16? Would that be all I need?

Can somebody please help me out with what is required?

I've also had quotes of Aus $2000 to fix and I'm sure parts would be under $200?? Realistically how long would the job take? Seems incredibly high!

Part 16 for each side .......an hour a side to fit

Add part 12 if your dust shields are perished/split

The illustration is a bit off, the dust shield 12 is the bellows type thing inside the spring. The orange urethane part with the perished coating is the "bumper" 13 which I imagine is what they are referring to as a "bush". And yes, 16 is the mount.

Even a very generous 2 hours a side since the spring assembly has to be disassembled gives us $450/hour!!?? Nice salary! I'm in the wrong business.

Cheers guys. BMW Australia want my left testicle and my first born for the parts. How does $107 each bump stop and $125 each front mount grab you?

I can locate mounts in Australia for $88 a pair but no joy on the bump stops.

$88 sounds about right. Odd the bumps are difficult, one would expect to have to replace parts of that material once in a while. They should be less than $30 a pair!

Unless it's been done recently, you should consider new shock struts as well, since it's all apart anyway.

No not installed. Labour is $230/hour at the stealaship. Car being sold and the struts seem fine so I'll skip on the price of new ones.
