Help with fitment numbers please

Hi all!

I’m sure one of you will be able to explain this to me, I keep looking at threads saying certain wheels won’t fit correctly, but when I’m looking at wheels for sale I do not understand which will fit. I found this set https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-CSL-Replica-18-Alloy-Wheels-8Jx18-ET35-E36-E46-E90-E91-E91-E92-E93-E87-F30-/193842607400?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

But I don’t understand what ET35 and 8J means and if they will fit my E86 Si? I have read genuine CSLs will only fit the M as it shares the rear ended from the M3. I just want some nice looking CSL wheels.

Thanks in advance

the fitment numbers (et number) are to do with how far the seating face is from the centre of the wheel, the lower the number the more the wheel pokes out. the j number is the width of the wheel in inches, stock an si will run 8j at the front 8.5j at the rear

As far as i know the rear end on an m coupe and an si are pretty much the same, no idea what the offset on genuine csl's are, if buying csl reps try and find the weights of them out as some i have seen are seriously heavy which isn't ideal!

Thank you for that reply that makes it much clearer.

Si / ZM are not the same in terms of rear wheel fitment , a rear CSL genuine is 9.5j et 27 a rear 108/mv2 for example is 8.5j et 50 .
As a target to aim for with Si 8.5j et 38 9.5j et 38 work well , if rim widths change then offsets can go up / down to accommodate so you would really need to know a wheelsets full numbers to know if they would work

I find this link immensely useful for understanding it! Once you put in a few ET and widths you see how it all works. Low ET means wheel further out. Mr Wilks can help with what ET is too low, as he appears to get through a new set a week 😀

For reference..... Standard 3.0Si

Style 108
8x18” ET47 – front alloy
225/40/18 – front tyre
8 1/2x18” ET50 – rear alloy
255/35/18 – rear tyre

Just my own thoughts but 18inch CSL style wheels look very underwhelming once fitted  those above look shabby , the numbers aren't great so factor in a refurb plus spacers on the rear you might as well be looking at a new set from BMautosport or CMwheels .

The axle itself :P it must be shorter in width on the M
