Help with fault

Hi, new here 👋

I've owned my 2011 s drive 23i for a few years now and have mainly used it as a weekend car. But after not driving it for a few months I had to jump start the car due to a flat battery. A couple of days later when driving I noticed sometimes the windows wouldn't wind down and the car didn't want to lock but was still driving fine. The following day I had the same issues with the addition of no indicators and my interior light staying on with the ignition turned off.

My local garage told me it sounds like the body control module but they wouldn't be able to do anything with it because it would require coding.

Has anyone here had a similar issue and know of a trusted body control module cloner? Or just any advice at this point. I just really want to get my car back on the road.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

The FRM aka body control module is corrupted..it needs taking out and sending to someone who can reflash it..its a out of car job, can't be done in situ..

About £50 should see it..some people offer same day service

Check ebay for FRM repair E90

Simples!

The jump start has probably upset the module, delicate little flowers at the best of times. Get a trickle charger to keep the battery voltage up to scratch. A few people on the forum may be able to help with coding if you state your location

FRM corruption not possible to code it..needs a bench flash…low battery volts, frequent charges, frequent disconnections, frequent programming all cause the FRM to have a bad hair day

Thank you for fast replies. I was expecting to wait at least a few days!

I've found the service on eBay and I think I may have taken the wrong part out in that case 😅
Picture attached. Should I disconnect the battery when reattaching this?
Thanks again! I'm so glad I've found this forum.

You should have disconnected the battery before removing it..however…

Yes battery needs to be disconnected prior to re attachment

Then when fully connected reconnect battery..in meantime ensure battery is fully charged and still better than 70% possible capacity

Perfect, I bought a trickle charger last week and have had the battery charging so it should be good. Luckily I did disconnect the battery when removing. I'll head out now to disconnect the frm and get it sent off.
Thank you so much
Absolute legend 👍

It's very very likely that once the battery has gone completely flat it will never be the same again.

I know it's been said a million times on here, but these z4's are super sensitive to poor batteries. Any weakness will start showing up as a million different minor electrical gremlins (stuff not working, random error messages, various codes etc). As well as problems starting.

IMHO - search the site for all the 100 comment long posts that ended with 'It needed a new battery - now all good'. Then grab yourself a new battery. £100.

Battery life is typically rated as 5 years BTW, should be stamped on the top of the battery somewhere.
