Help with E85 ext. Door Handle removal !

Hi, I have an 03 Z4 and I need to remove the drivers door handle. Something is broken in the handle; the look just spins! I have read the DIY on LEDs install, but still cant get my outside door handle out. I see the little gold thingee with the hole that has to be slid forwards, but the other "slider" that gets pushed with a screw driver is what I can't get. I have tried this for about anhour with no avail. The car was hit and the driver's door was replaced a few years back; and the lock has not been right since. When I peer inthe little access hole, there is a "rectangle" off to the right. It is made of plastic and it seems to be broken - but there is nothing there to "catch" and slide to temove the handle. ** If anyone could help with this I would be eternally grateful. Thanks !

Just tried my driver's door lock (for the first time ever) and it just spins in the barrel. Round and round and round It also moves back and forth No sign of it being forced etc.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is a fix easy/cheap? Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, looking at the docs above it seems like I'll need special tools to remove the door handle? Or can I use normal tools?
