Help with a new camera

I don't know anything about cameras really, but I got a Nikon D40 from Amazon for £270 and they're now £240, not the most modern camera but I don't believe you can go wrong for that kind of cash.

D40 would be a highly rated rated for the slasher Terry is.

Would take the Canon over the Nikon personally. The kit lenses with the 450 are actually not bad, and the choice of auto-focus lenses on the nikon is limited. If you go Nikon, I'd take the D80.

sp3ctre, So is the canon more user friendly more everyday than the nikon?

And Ducks or anyone whats DSLR????? <edit> DOH!!! sorry just read all of your post ducks.

DSLR is a Digital SLR

Canon is a nice piece of kit, but don't go for the standard lens but take the Image Stabiliser one (IS). 24-70 or so.

Knowing you have shaky hands you could do with a steady camera :P

Canon is a better camera than Nikon D40 for sure, and obviously the D80 is better than the D40 too. I'm a photography chump and I can operate the D40 with ease, but then I suspect the others would be the same too.

How often will you use it?
