Help - window buttons and remote closure

Hi all. Just picked up my car yesterday from the place that was looking at my audio.

I'm pretty sure that the Windows would all close when I held down the "lock" button on my remote fob, but now it has stopped doing it. It does still open all windows if I hold the unlock button.

Also, the window buttons in the door have two stops - the first stop raises/lowers the window until released, and the second stop will raise/lower all the way. Since getting the car back, it works fine when I lower the window, but when raising the first stop doesn't do anything, and the second stop will only raise until released. Didn't have this problem before and I feel like it must be related to the remote closure.

Any thoughts?

You need to perform the window reset procedure. Probably due to them disconnecting the battery.

Do a search on here, plenty of threads describing how.

Try a window reset there will be a thread here somewhere about it or google it, but I think it is, wind window down and hold button down for 5sec then raise window and hold button up for 5 sec, repeat for other window.

That's what works for just about every make so BMW should be the same.

Initialization is performed on the power window switch of the relevant door.
Requirements for correct initialization:
• Initialization with engine running
• Convertible top, doors and windows closed

Initialization comprises:
• Erasure of initialization
• Reinitialization

An initialization must be performed:
• In the event of malfunctions, e.g. no one-touch control function, no opening or if available no comfort function is possible
• After the power window drive has been replaced
• After work is carried out on the power window mechanism
• After a power supply interruption, e.g. disconnection of the battery or disconnection of the power supply to the door
• After the door window glass has been removed and installed or replaced
• After adjustment work on the door window glass
• After adjustment work on the convertible top
• After replacement of seals

Erasure of initialization:
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds

This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.
Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

Save you time;)

Should I have one touch both down and up? I've tried this reset and still only have one touch down, but not up. Thanks!

I honestly couldn't tell you buddy
I just followed that with mine

Turned out it was when roof down rubbers expanded and pinch stopper was putting windows down not an issue with mech

Good news everybody! The reset worked...on the driver side. I now have both one touch and key open and close on that side.

However I only have one touch down and key open on the passenger side. Neither function works to close it. I think I need to try to reset that one again later, but at least I know it works.

Yay! Sorted!

For completeness' sake two points:
1) The re-initialisation didn't show up until I had left the car switched off and locked for an hour or so. It worked when I re-started the car after that.

2) The instructions could be more clear/simple in my view. Suggested amendments in bold below.

Initialization is performed using the drivers door window switches, one at a time.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open window fully
Close the window fully and hold window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage) for approx. 2 seconds after it's fully closed
• Open window fully
Close the window fully and hold window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage) for approx. 2 seconds after it's fully closed
Switch off car, lock and leave for a while, as the re-Initialization may not manifest immediately. If successful it will work next time you start the car.

Always welcome buddy
