Hi Guys have just been quoted £2500 :o for a vanos fitted. Anyway I live in Leicestershire any ideas where I can get my vanos fixed? symptoms are around 2-3k rattling or tapping sound coming from the engine. even cruising I can hear it.

took it to a garage today,he listened to the engine and diagnosed definitely vanos :( great.

Any help would be spot on

Don't fancy getting some parts from http://www.beisansystems.com/products.html and having a go yourself? That's what I'd be doing

 your joking dan ! wouldn't trust myself to try this. would drive it again after that's for sure. Mark percell ? have you used him before? Mmonkey?

I haven't (because I am tight and try and fix everything myself) but a guy I know through a friend gets his M3 race car serviced and fixed there. I have only heard good things about him. Stick it in the google and see what you get  I am sure you won't be disappointed

Are you sure its not the vanos hub bolts loose?

There are 6 on each hub IIRC and can work loose, not uncommon.

Hi Guys thanks again. Will have a search.z4m 2006 Im not aware of this vanos bolt problem :o how can I get this checked from someone honest?

Common on E46 M3's never been confirmed if it was fixed for the Z4 though. Some say yes, others no. Don't blame you for not wanting to try yourself though.

thanks again. will have to take it to an indy for diagnosis then.might have to be oxford then. hope it will be ok for the journey. gutted as the car is nearly finished with mods ...bar a super charger.

I use Munich Legends and couldn't recommend high enough, although quite a drive for you. They specialise in E46 M3's so know the S54 very well.

they look expensive! will have to make some calls and see.

they are proper racing team, many a time my car is on the ramp next to an f40 LM or something similar crazy, they aren't as expensive as you think, but their work is impeccable.

ok Beedub worth a shot! brasseye thought about dr vanos but apparently he is a bit unreliable at getting back to people. don't have time for that as its my daily runner. Thanks though

Aaron reeve in kings Lynn. Did my vanos and runs an m3 race car. Mine was £800 fully fitted so definitely worth a look!

First question I would be asking is why do you need a new VANOS? What's wrong with it exactly?
As pointed out most parts are replaceable on it so much better of going down that route and just doing a complete overhaul. All the uprated parts plus labour is costing me around £800 inc Vat.
